I tried one at luge and do like the beam pattern and brightness. BUT the 1400 is about twice as heavy and use the same mount as the 900 which in my opinion bounces too much. With a better/stronger mount/modification it's a killer light!
I tend to think so. Any brighter and you start washing out trail texture.

I have a 900 on my bars, it's great. However, I don't always want to go where my bars are pointed! Thinking of bar mounting a 1400 and helmet mount the 900. But could just as easily pick up another 900. Just want to see what owners and demo riders thought.

I normally ride with a 900 on the bars and a 900 on the helmet, but I had a chance to demo a 1400. What I liked:
* remote button
* no strobe modes
* wider beam pattern
What I didn't like:
* the light would bounce all over the place creating a strobe-like effect when going through rough stuff at speed.
Bouncing may not be the best word to describe it, but I'm not sure how to explain it. Don't know if using a smaller O-ring would have helped. I didn't have a problem with it changing position on me, just bouncing. Managed to correct some of the bounce near the end of the ride by wrapping some velcro strips around the light. I have not had this problem with the 900 (or at least I haven't noticed). I did not feel the 1400 on high was all that much brighter than the 900 on high, but it did have a wider pattern because of the side pods.

If that was around 7 then probably was me, if u want i can let you use it And review it since it is my 1st set and I think is great for the $$$ spent.
Me too. Mine is the giant water bottle size and I think it weighs as much as my bike sometimes.

i have been usning the 1400 and 900 for a few months, the mount is defiantly a problem on the 1400 at speed even with a small o ring on oversized bars, ive been looking for a clamp style mount to mod it onto
strobe-like effect is the perfect way to describe it. I have only ridden with mine a couple of times, but it's worse than worthless going downhill because of the strobe-like effect of the light bouncing up and down. If anyone has a solution, I would love to hear it. I am going to try to put some rubber down on my bar before strapping the light to it. We'll see. The 1400 produces awesome light, and is a great price, but I'm frustrated with it right now. Unless I can get the bouncing effect fixed, I wouldn't recommend it.
Is it the beam pattern that's causing the strobe effect? If the beam edge has a sharp cut-off, any shaking will make it seem like a strobe. You don't notice it as much on lights with wider beam patterns that have softer edges.

I would like to see the 900 with a new beam pattern. I was looking at some reviews a while back, and they were comparing the main beam 1400 (without the extra LED's) and the beam of the 900, and the 1400 (main beam) had a wider and more even beam; whereas the 900 was somewhat spotty, by comparison.
I feel that the 900 is enough, but ever since I bought my 900, I always thought it could use a wider beam pattern. Anybody, know if the reflector from the 1400 can be swapped into the 900?

older, not much wiser.
I picked-up a 1400 last week and am pretty happy with it (granted I've only used it twice). I like the fact that the switch can be mounted next to my grips so I don't have to let go with one hand to turn the light on/off. Also, if you hold down the "on" button, you can adjust the brightness of the lights. I do agree that the "O" ring mount is the weak link of the set-up, so time will tell on that.... I also wrap a piece of inner tube around my bars under the light, which seems to help with any bouncing. For the price it is definitely a sweet light!
I don't think it's the beam pattern. I just think it bounces more than other lights I have used.
