And just not go to the hospital.?? I've had two since I became a little more agressive. No pinpointed pupils, or loss of conciousness ( is that right).?

What have you done to recupperate?

I had a beer when I got home... I went head on with a boulder at Stairsteps in aliso

If it's your second concussion and you have insurance, you might want to get a scan. A 3rd concussion is usually where Doctors get worried, but it depends on the severity of the concussions, time in between, etc.

Definitely got my bell rung a few times playing hockey. Knocked out cold snowboarding, came-to seeing stars (it really happens, not just in the cartoons). Got hit by a car road riding in Chicago, cracked my helmet, no concussion though... So far I haven't hit my head mtbing... knock on wood.

Not much you can do as far as recovery. Avoid activities where you could further injure your brain for at least a few weeks to indefinitely depending on the severity of the concussion. Maybe take an anti-inflammatory to keep swelling down or aspirin to keep blood thin... but thats just a guess.

I never got a bad concussion in football but I got my bell rung more than once. Biggest thing to look out for is memory loss. thats about the biggest clue (obviously). When in doubt take it easy for a week or so, its worth protecting your brain. I've seen some guys get pretty facked up from playing ball with a concussion.

Actually the most important thing to do when you get a concussion is have someone wake you up every 2 hours during the first night (you can slip into a coma from a concussion). Also take some anti-swelling like ibuprofen, your brain swells when it gets bruised.

best thing to do is to stay awake until the hospital... then do what you said!
I believe (could be wrong) one of the risks that come with concussion is a hemorrhagic stroke in really bad cases... you don't want that!

actually, when i got my concussion 3 mths ago, they recommended against NSAIDs for the first 72 hours & suggested acetaminophen (tylenol). i had a ct scan & they were still concerned about any 'bleeding they might have missed'.

go get checked out.

lol why? so they can say yep, u have a concussion.

no, so they can tell you if you have a SERIOUS concussion- READ: bleeding inside. duh...

Rest. Ibuprofin.

You know if you have a concussion when you are really disoriented.

I had one in Oaks a couple of years ago. After the knock on the head, I got lost on the trail. Everything looked unfamiliar (at the time, I thought it was normal that nothing looked familiar -- strange sensation in hindsight.) I had my GPS so I followed it to my car and drove home. That too in hindsight is scary.

I brushed off the knock on the head as nothing, took some aspirin and went on a date with my wife that I had promised. We went to CPK and she later told me I was acting really loopy. As we got in the car to drive home from a place we had been a million times, I casually, but seriously asked, "Where are we?"

That was when she got really worried and insisted the next morning I got to the hospital and get a scan. Everything negative, but a concussion just the same. From what I read, these are the symptoms of a concussion.

For what its worth.

I high sided into the ground last summer, fractured my helmet but didn't lose consciousness. I felt dizzy but climbed back on the bike and rode home to Redlands. I thought I was fine and then two days later, I awoke in the middle of the night with the room spinning circles. I was on the verge of passing out. Along with the vertigo came a horrific bout of nausea. It lasted through the night.

In the morning I phoned my mum and told her to call me every 45 minutes. If I didn't pick up wait another 5 minutes and if I still don't pick up, call an ambulance. Finally dragged my butt to the ER and I had a concussion. Doctor told me that the first 48 hours after the concussion are the most critical. Some people fall asleep and never wake up.

Scared the crap out of me, if I ever bang my head again, I am going to the ER immediately.

Yup....and just in case there is something else going on.

See when you get a bit older and wiser you start to realize that you don't actually know everything and there are people that are smarter than you, and when it comes to your health...particularly your brain and your heart you don't take chances.

We have a simple rule...if there is any doubt ...there is no doubt...see a professional.

We have even a more important rule...if there is any doubt about a heart attack or stroke..there is no room for doubt call 911.

I still don't feel the same from my wreck exactly 3 weeks ago today. Within a minute of slamming the ground I was barfing. Wife kept me up every two hours that night, and the barfing continued in the early morning.
Fevers were tough to work through as well for the first two days.(due to the concussion)

Crashing sucks, but I am almost ready to ride again. Thankfully I had my full face helmet on.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but they have guidelines for self diagnosis. You don't need to see a doctor if you fall into a grade 1.

American Academy of Neurology guidelines

Grade 1
Confusion, symptoms last <15 minutes, no loss of consciousness

Grade 2
Symptoms last >15 minutes, no loss of consciousness

Grade 3
Loss of consciousness (IIIa, coma lasts seconds, IIIb for minutes)

I forgot to mention that the night after I had my concussion I also had vertigo. For about two days.
