A few weeks ago my Superlight started creaking. I addressed the usual problem areas, but it turned out to be a little more difficult than I had anticipated. It took a couple weeks to decide it was the fork. Hmph.
The fork was now 13 months old, one month out of warranty. I took it to Shop A, and they said it was going to cost about half the retail price of a new fork. I went in to Shop B, and the owner showed me how to reproduce the creak definitively, and said mine would not fail catastrophically in the time I would be riding the bike. He's a smart dude, so there was no reason to doubt him. Still, I can't stand creaks, so it seemed I would be shelling out some serious coin.
Coincidentally, a bloke on STR just happened to be selling an almost identical fork for a good price. I was back to riding silently and only a little poorer.
So I called Fox and explained how although the fork was 54 weeks old when it started making noise, it fell far below my expectations for longevity. The dude told me to send the fork in, and they would look at it. So I did.
Well guess what? There was a package waiting for me this afternoon when I got home, and they had installed a new crown casting. How about that?
On one hand, their product didn't live up to my expectations, but on the other, they resolved the problem to my satisfaction. A consumer can't ask for anything more.
