I've been doing much longer epic type rides and I keep looking for new, longer, taller, steeper rides. (I even drove through the middle of the night last weekend to do a road ride in the Sierras). I've been so busy at work that I've become solely a weekend warrior. All my old 1-2 hour loops have lost their appeal. I feel like I have to keep searching for the next "bucket list" ride. I can't remember the last time I rolled out of my house for a quick Peter's Canyon loop. Anybody else have this problem? Epic Ride Syndrome - Its like trying crack and realizing that coke won't suffice anymore. #-o

It is not a problem, it is just worth the extra effort to get that much further down the trail less traveled and a quick reprieve from everyday life.

I know how ya feel. Ive been completely consumed, as of late, by work, and any free time, which has been minimal, is spent with the wife and kids. So, whenever I do get a chance, I really itch for epic stuff(my local loop has gotten very boring as well). Luckily I live only an hour away from Idyllwild and I get my fill of epic up there.

Good to know I'm not alone.

I don't know if Brian told you about the California Triple Crown series. It's been around for many years.

The first one we do starts in February. ( El Camino formerly called the Butterfield) These are mostly 200+ mile rides that will take anywhere from 11 to 18 hours to do. Probably won't cure you from searching for epic rides but at least will put you in touch with people who are similary infected. I'm already inked for the first one but I'm starting a new business so I don't know how many I'll get in next year. This year I took a break and have only been doing centuries but I usually get 4 to 5 in a year. Some crazy folks will do as many as 20 or more. They got it bad!

You're welcome to join me on a real epic.

2400 miles since Sept. 7th. Left from Wrightwood, CA, just rolled into Waco, Texas this morning.

Climb through Ojai spend the night @Wheeler gorge climb to Reyes peak, follow ridge trail to Gridley or decend Chorro Grande, that's epic. I'm yearning for a big ride also.

yea, i spend piles of time on the internet seaking out/reading about exoitc epic rides (for me, epic rides are epic 10,000 foot steep descents in peru, boliva, tibet, BC interior, etc). i think about it alot!

well another coldwater drop will have to suffice for now:(

The thing about epics... well, George Carlin said it aptly:

"Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town."
