Congratulations are in order...

A few moments ago, "SVOSCO" became the 5,000th member of STR!
How far we have come in so little time!

We could not have done it without you... and you... and you...

Yesterday, when I noticed the membership was at 4996, I said to myself "watch for the Dino Brown post, which will announce when we've hit 5000".

It is a milestone, no doubt.

So I have a question....
Do old screen names still count?(Ie "I am Dino" or "Mechmann")

What about screen names that haven't logged on(lurked also) in a year or more?

I mean 5k is a lot of members but I don't believe it is an accurate number....how many screen names signed up but haven't even lurked since the sign up date?

5000 is 5000...that's 5000 people who've made the effort to sign up to this site. That alone has value.

However, I know people sign up for this site for reasons other than the obvious. As we know, from time to time I sell a few parts in the marketplace forum. Many of the inquiries I receive are from people outside of the area, who did a google search for a given part and find my ad on this site. To contact me, I always say to PM me in my ad. As a result, a lot of these people join the site so they can PM me. And no...these aren't people from Nigeria. In fact, I just sold a shock to a guy in Colorado who joined this site merely to contact me.

ONE more thing... Haha!....

Lurkers: On any given day, the number of "guests" surfing the pages of STR outnumber actual members. I don't get it. It costs nothing to join. :?:

Participation:
One (i.e. you Lurkers) can not fully appreciate the "beauty" of this website unless you participate. Hitting the THANKS button is a worthy "first" step. If nothing else, it let's us know you exist. Posting your opinions/questions is a commendable "second" step. No question/response is too stupid. The "final" step is to join us on a group ride. By the time your first ride ends, there is a good chance (your newfound buddies) will invite you on a second ride. Trust me on that!

The Godfather: For many of us, surfing the pages of STR has become a daily ritual. I would be willing to bet that most of us give little thought to the fact- if not for (the vision of) ONE person, none of this would exist!

Thank you Godfather

Your thoughts? :-k
An occasional (thread) bump would be most appreciated :D

here's your bump...

My thoughts? What was I drinking in that red cup? It was Stone 11th, I think...if that was last year's ride, then i remember a few of those making the rounds...and I think that may have been the last time I actually saw George. No, the Marshall Canyon ride he was there too, i think...

Without STR, i probably never would have ridden cholla and lynx in a little black dress. And heels. With Dino, andy, and gene all dressed like that too.

Or ridden in a bathrobe at el moro.

Or even known about vision quest, counting coup, the traverse, toad festival, Rwanda ride, various poker rides, races, and all the other really fun events that go on far more often than i ever knew.

Or spent nearly as much of my income at Roscoes.

It's been, and still is, lots of fun...

The total for member count only includes current accounts. Obviously as Lee pointed out, not all them are regular posters or in some cases even lurkers. The number of "active" members listed includes those that have posted within a certain time period (I'm not sure what that is). This is probably a more accurate reflection of the true membership.

I think what's truly impressive though is the number that are logged on at any given time compared to other sites with a Southern California forum. STR is far and away the biggest So Cal mtb site. Hopefully that will continue.

As long as those with negative, divisive attitudes find other places to play, STR should continue to thrive.

Don't ge me wrong...I appriciate every thing this site has done for local mtb riding....it has brought together thousands of riders who would have NEVER met other wise...I was just challenging the validity of the actual number...

Aug 2006 1 member????

What about the rest of us who joined in Feb 2005?

what about those of us that have more than one account?

Shu: Thanks for catching the typo.

So many cool riders out there

As far as the cat woman, what happens on a costume ride, stays on a costume ride. Nuff said.

Though at times I whine about all the people spamming to sell gear or push their political/religious beliefs I have found an awesome community of fellow bike riders with common goals. As usual nothing is perfect but so far STR is close enough. As far as meeting new folks and riding new places nothing compares to STR as the tool for the job, and the friends I have made (and/or grown closer to) are some of the best people one could hope to meet.

Five thousand cheers for making this board what it is solely through user contributions.
