29er Tire Combos/Recommendations

I assume you slashed it on a rock or something. That could happen to any tire I suppose.

Rampages are pretty readily available, which is important to me. Price wise I assume they are comparable too. We'll see...

My 2.25's measure 2.23 or something close. I ran it tubeless with Stans, it had a LOT of pinholes in the sidewalls and it took a few batches of Stans to get it to seal up completely.

It burps VERY easily mounted to Arches, it's a tire to run on relatively mellow terrain IMO.

Are you running the Racing Ralph's with the Stan's rim strip or just the yellow tape? That strip may help with the burps.

It happens a lot more often to sub-600g tires with thin sidewalls. But, that is why they are so light. It's a trade off.

The Ignitor in the rear is not my fav. In dry conditions I like the tried and true Nano.:)

ps. Have not tried the SB8

Unless you'll be racing or training to race, I am not sure I'd suggest the 2.25's for regular riding.

They are great rolling, light tires, though.
 
Yeah, that's what I am thinking. I need a front tire for regular riding that is not as burly as my Mountain King 2.4. I think the Rampage would do the trick.

Just the yellow tape. I don't believe in the strip, I'll just run a tube if it gets to that point.
 
is it me or does the rampage have a similar tread pattern as the nevegal?

anywho, going with the advice in this thread as well and putting a rampage 2.35 up front. that means i'll have a SB8 for sale if anyone wants it

you know i love my rampage in the front :) it looks like a nevegal, rolls faster and doesnt wear out as fast. LOVE IT.

AND... i am really digging the SB8 for climbs etc... seems to roll great on fire roads and hooks up well on all but crazy loose stuff.

i love the rampage/sb8 combo.

The front is point and shoot.. without an INKLING of slip.
The SB8 in rear rolls great and hooks up on all but crazy outta the saddle climbs in loose terrain.

The rolling resistances average out to a nice normal set of 2" tires

you said that before and i meant to ask then, but how do you feel it? we're about the same size on the same bike right? anywho, ran them on two bikes now in the rear but can't "feel" anything persay, except lack of traction :?:

what kind of riding is everyone doing?

If you are riding CC why do you need really wide tires.:?:

Remember you are not roll'in on the little hoops:bang:

I think I may be fatter than you, but I dunno. I am 6' 0" and about 220 + gear and bike.

On fast turns or through rocky areas I could feel the side wall flexing. On a hard turns it felt like the tire wasn't following the line of the wheel. I went up to 40 psi to to stiffen the sidewall, but then the traction went to crap. This was with tubes.

I am quite happy with my Crossmark 2.1 running tubeless at around 30 psi as a rear tire.

CC = Cross Country not Counting Coup:)

I will change out tires for more agressive trails but for Cross Country IMHO..2.1 is all that is needed :)

Just rode Trabuco two weeks ago on a 2.1 Ignitor. And I am only a weekend warrior.:)

My whole point is that with the bigger hoops you can get by with a skinnier tire:)
