:mad:Arnold is trying to axe 100 state parks in order to reduce some cost in the most recent budget. Although 100 is less than the 220 the state talked about closing in may...it still sucks. I'm all for fiscal responsibility, but I think there are serveral other areas/departments/programs that can trimmed...but I'll keep that to myself.

Here's a link to voice your opinion and try and stop the closure of state parks.

Link to the a story about the budget and park closure.

Cheers.

Yeah, now they are asking for coperate sponsers to keep the parks open. Can you see Shimano sponsering the PCT? HA!

The funny thing is a lot of the state parks bring in revenue for the state and by closing them the state loses money. I think this is a ploy by state government to get the budget crisis more press and for it to effect people who will be more willing to accept tax increases so they can get their parks back.

They should do what they are doing in in Arizona and sell the State Capitol and state buildings first. Not all states have year round state legislators, Texas mets every other year for 40 days. Texas has no state sales tax and they are not running a deficit. I say send all the bureaucrats home first.....not going to happen because CA is run by the State Employees Unions.

I hope they do close the parks, what is it going to take to fire these yahoos. Unpaid legislators with no agenda is what we need.

Pay
California $114,000 a year
Alabama $10 a day

Mike, that's a splendid idea... you may be onto something. I'd gladly donate to the state if it meant being able to ride in wilderness areas, on the PCT, and on the JMT. :)

Don't hate the player hate the game

Everyone is so quick to throw Arnie under the bus without taking the time to address their district Representative who could do more for them and the respective park. Complaining to us does worse than nothing since we have to waste our time bickering before anything is done.

Revenue were grossly inflated just like many other things the past few years. Even during the boom parks got the shaft since they lack the muscle to tug at heartstrings like the larger union lobbies. The current period of correction in both public and private sectors is needed to cleanse out some detritus. The survivors will come out stronger so long as they are not taxed to death for it by the current liberal environment.

(More info about the project http://www.reformcal.com/cms/index.php?page=citizen-legislature-project)

They are collecting signatures right now to get this (return CA legislature to a part time legislature) on the next ballot...

So what happens if they "terminate" the parks??
They don't go away. I'm assuming they are still public land and thus can not be sold. So how would this affect the normal every day park visitor?
Bathrooms closed!
No rangers!
Anarchy!

I would hope volunteers would still be allowed to do trail maintenance.

In my opinion, the parks / wilderness areas should be returned to the people.
I am probably nieve to think that we could self-police and find a happy medium (with the way hikers, bikers, and horse back riders are at each other's necks). But in the end I think we could work it out without the BS associated with a government agency.

Please keep this in consideration next time you vote. Want change? Vote outside of the two party system. This system has now become so corrupt and disfunctional we may never pull out of this.

Vote what you will but please consider other political parties then the two.
