This all came up around 9/11 right? I remember them saying they could fly a plane right into the boobs and nothing would happen.

I think the issue is the transport station. If that stuff were to burn, it would be a while before San Onofre could contribute to the grid.

All I know is that they shut down the nuke station...which is one reason why we are at 20% less electricity than before.

Sladnas, sorry about your place. People are way more important than things
though and I am happy to hear you got out okay. I was evacuated at 2:00am
on Monday morning with a neighbor pounding on my door, the reverse call, and police going door to door. I was just able to get back into my house about an
hour ago and our neighborhood is still here but completely crispy on the edges.
The valley is toast and many of our friends have lost their homes but are okay.
I hope that everyone was able to get out with their families and are safe. If
I can help anyone here on STR please let me know....I have seen more than my
share of generosity the last four days. Again I hope you are all okay.

it's quite possible. the news (we know it hasn't been 100% reliable lately) said it was "shut down". they didn't specify if it was one reactor or if both of the "femme-bots" were down.

I used to work at San Onofre about 10 years ago. They routinely power down the reactors for maintenance.

The 2 units can withstand an "unspecified" blast. I worked security with top level clearance when I worked there and they didn't tell us what the strength was, but I know those walls are at least 6' thick.

    Latest info I found online:

----North County Fire has reported a significant improvement in the fire conditions. Currently no flames are traveling upward into the air; All live fire activity is confined to heat on the ground. The velocity has dropped significantly and firefighters are beginning to feel coastal conditions coming in. Firefighters are still battling the heat in the Santa Margarita River Valley, from the Willowglen area to De Luz. At 7:00 pm North county fire announced that the base of operations for the Falbrook fire has now been moved onto camp Pendleton. The move was necessary in order to provide adequate facility space for the hundreds of firefighters that are battling the blaze. Full containment of the fire is expected Sunday, October 28th. Fire authorities say it will be at least 2 days before Fallbrook residents will be allowed to return to their homes.----

It would appear my prayers have been answered. According to the info above, the fire is under control pretty well. I just called my house and the answering machine picked up:bang::bang: (yes it is an actual machine sitting next to our phone).

Well it's official ABC,NBC, & CBS, stopped their live broadcast of the fires. Only KUSI is still live. I can't believe it honestly, still have our East County & North County peeps to worry about. ](*,)

Up here in LA it's been normal broadcasting every evening.

It seems like the wind has died down here today for sure (though the smoke has gotten incredibly worse), but hopefully conditions are finally improving down there!

Huh? What does this machine next to the phone do? And why didn't you just put the phone in your pocket when you left?:p

Hopefully you find everything is cool when you get back.

What I meant was, it's not a voicemail system provided by the phone company (as is popular to do these days) but a standard answering machine. Meaning if it picks up, the house is OK.

Anyone hear if any of the SD fires are arson? Also what kind of sick people are looting during the evac's. I kept hearing this the last few days on the news/radio. I understand its only a few people but that is a few to many. I hear that its an automatic 3yrs. I know with crowded prisons that won't last 3mos but still.

    Hi everyone.

Here is a picture of my building with an arrow pointing to what is left of my apartment. Looks like it was the worst of them all. Just got word that my mother in law's house is out of the evacuation area, so we will be leaving the hotel and moving up there this morning. It is about 2 miles by foot from my apartment, so I might try a land recon mission. The national guard might make me change my mind though :)

    Take care everyone.

I read yesterday they had some illegal's stealing supplies from the Q.

That and it was sad that some guy got beat up and is in the hospital after some kind of highway altercation Tuesday night...

The Witch fire I heard was from a transformer blowing up, but the Poomacha fire I read was arson. Santiago was arson. Not sure about Harris.

Yeah, I read the same thing about the stealing of supplies...that's pretty low.

I heard the Harris was from a downed power pole.

Yep, six "undocumented workers" (PC) ;) on their day off decided to head down to the Q to load up on some "free" relief supplies. When the schmucks came back for seconds and had their truck filled to the hilt they were confronted by a cop.

The cop was smart enought to add 1 and 2 together; no Cali ID's, none of them spoke English - so he called the BP.

This story makes me wanna vomit!

BTW, JOD's co-worker was evacuated out of Eastlake and went back in to her house to grab some of her belongings only to find looters already there.

Sucks... Hopefully they didn't have to do anything crazy to keep their stuff... like it's not bad enough to be evacuated and worried about fires but there are stupid people out trying to take advantage.

    Hope it stops pretty soon...
