Very exciting news for SoCal. IMBA awarded Sycamore Canyon in Riverside the opportunity to offer a trail building clinic. There are minimal spots open for the trail class, but there is plenty of room still for the club care evening this Thursday the 17th.

It will be held at the Jenson USA Riverside location. 1615 Eastridge Ave Riverside, CA 92507

The Club Care Clinic is aimed at individuals and clubs that promote mountain biking and can get involved in trail advocacy. A few STR members as well as Team Dirty Work members have already helped with some Sycamore Canyon Park clean ups and are attending the Trail building class as well. The goal with the Club Care evening is to show IMBA the amount of support there is in Socal. If we get a good turn out they are more than willing to come back out to different trail networks.

Club Care as described by IMBA:
Overview: A key element of building sustainable trails is ensuring that there will be a community committed to the trails’ existence. The Club Care Presentation is designed to teach advocates and volunteers how to effectively organize in order to accomplish club goals. Based on the Crews’ experience teaching hundreds of volunteer groups how build better trails through grassroots organization and advocacy, they will share techniques that advocacy organizations across the country have used to reach goals, overcome challenges, improve land access and grow the mountain bike community. This presentation helps effective clubs learn what they could be doing even better (such as growing leadership base), as well as teaches developing clubs how to structure their organization, motivate existing members and attract new volunteers and members.
Key topics: Building a community around a common goal, goal setting, increasing community participation in your club, cultivating new leadership, communications basics, events planning and marketing, tips and tricks for creating a strong and effective non-profit organization.

Cheers,
Andy

Hiya, Andy. I read your post a couple times and it seems that you didn't include a start time. What time Thursday evening is the event starting?

Wow, I am appalled at the fact that there has been no response to this thread and that only 1 person from STR is planning on attending. Just wondering why this is????

There also has been scant response on the thread regarding the Jenson/IMBA trail building class on Saturday as well. I'm attending the class and I would come to the event on Thursday also, but I'm in Upland and I don't have a way of getting there. As to why there has been such a lack of response to these IMBA events here on STR, I can't say. Perhaps if the events were taking place in Orange County things might be different as it seems that a large chunk of STR members live and ride there. Personally, I'm happy that they're taking place in Riverside, but that's because Riverside and Sycamore Canyon are essentially my home turf and I'm happy that they've gotten the attention of the IMBA.

Aha! No wonder you asked me what I was doing on Thursday night! LOL ;)

I think you make a valid point-- if this was OC, people would be all over it.

I would love to attend this event but had family dinner already planned for that evening. However, I have already signed up for the trail care school and do plan to attend that this Saturday!

By the way, I do live in OC but I don't mind drive to Riverside to attend the event since I am new to this and love to learn more about trail care and maintenance. Besides, we all need to give back to the sports that we love and help others.

Hey luketrailrider, if you can get a ride to the Thursday night event, I can give you a ride home. I live in rancho but will be going straight to jensons from work. I work in riverside.
Just pm me.

Driving to Riverside on a Thursday night, for those in OC doesn't look like fun.

Maybe if it were on Saturday or Sunday, there might be more attendies.

I agree with J, Friday night or this weekend could have worked better, but it is what we had to do with the trail building classes and what-not going on. If anyone would like I'd be happy to do a Readers Digest quickie overview as long as you don't mind my crappy spelling and attempt at humor. :)

Hope to see some STR faces though.

Cheers,
Andy

p.s. You think it's bad here DenMo, you should checkout the MTBR thread...crickets. The club I belonged to in Indiana would fill up in ten minutes of the mention of IMBA coming...I don't get SoCal.

Friday would be the worst option, have you seen the freeways on a friday night?

We live in Riverside and we still attend weeknight festivities in the OC, it's all about priorities. I guess it doesn't bother me as I lived in the OC once upon a time......No love for the I.E. I guess.

I was also surprised. I signed up for the trail class Saturday and am really looking forward to it. Guess I should was my str jersey.

I agree, I would rather drive from IE to OC on weeknights......traffic will always be going the other way. ;)

I work in the IE on a regular basis......but I am out there early, and back in OC before rush hour.
