Getting Buzzed (Pics)

I drove out today to jeffj's neck of the woods to do a preview of a ride he's thinking of putting on in the next week or two. Funny how we were driving in and I mentioned it was perfect weather and temps (about 80F) to see a Rattler or a gopher snake in the afternoon. This was about 12:30 today, 3 minutes drive in at 10 mph, a turn around and 2 minutes drive out above Castaic.

They're out there, ride slow and in control, so you can avoid them if need be.

Note how the snake turned around, and started heading DOWNHILL to avoid me. Let the snake have the right of way, encourage them to go down hill and into some thick vegetation or some cover, and they'll feel safe and leave you alone.

Our encounter was brief and encouraging, not antagonizing in any way. At no point did I try to encourage a defensive coiled posture from this snake. Give them an out and 98 times out of 100, they'll take it.

Buzz, buzz, buzz

That snake hadn't missed too many meals and so was not as grumpy as some when you request they move aside to let you pass ;)

It would be best to get a ride in sooner rather than let it get too late in the season when daytime temps get toasty. Conditions are prime right now, snakes and all.

Maybe Sunday 3/30/08 would work out???

Ask Denmother how to post up a ride to get it on the Calendar? Use some other rides posted as a template. I saw more wild flowers than I did wild snakes today, great bloom.
