For the book readers on STR, what are you reading?

Totally addicted in a bad way to British (who would have thought?) Litterature ... currently on "Manfield Park" after "Pride and Prejudice" and "Brave New World"
 
Currently reading "Beat the Street" by Peter Lynch, another in a long line of personal finance books I have been reading.
 
Pillars of the Earh by Ken Follet and The Measure of a Man by Sidney Poitier.
 
I’ve been on Sci-Fi kick lately. I am currently reading Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein. So far, its way better than the movie
 
I recently finished "Heft On Wheels" by Mike Magnuson for the second time. Great book about a fat guy who rides his bike a lot and gets not so fat. The writing is witty, the story is entertaining, and inspirational. Overall I loved the book and recommend it to anyone, especially those who are cyclists. Later.
 
I spend a lot of time in my car commuting to and from work. Audiobooks have kept me from going completely insane. I have an account at Audible.com and get two books a month. Some of my recent favorites:

American Gods - Neil Gaiman

The Diamond Age and Snowcrash- Neal Stephenson

Haunted - Chuck Palahniuk

The Tipping Point and Blink- Malcolm Gladwell

The Promise of Sleep - William C. Dement

Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! - Richard P. Feynman
 
j.r.r. tolkien's the silmarillion, i plan on reading the entire series, but damn, if it isnt one of the most difficult reads ive encountered thus far. even after boring-ass college textbooks. but im sure it'll pick up soon like most books like this usually do.
i just finished lance armstrong's book. it was pretty good. its no lord of the rings, but its inspirational and got me back on the bike.

Good list! I've been interested in a few you mentioned. And I love anything by/about Feynman. Followed him to Tannu Tuva in his books, which then led to the great DVD "Genghis Blues". Check it out...

I go for audiobooks on the commute too. Otherwise I tend to think about work...

How about Jared Diamond? I've read all three (maybe there are more) and all were excellent, at least in the thought-provoking department if not the writing style. He got a Pulitzer or Nobel I think for Guns, Germs, & Steel.

brave new world is a fine book. ever read the others related to it, such as Island? also good.

well, once you get tolkein's writing style, the sky's the limit- the LOTR trilogy can go damn quick once you get the style.

anyone here ever read A.C. Doyle?

Just finished 'Agincourt: Henry V and the Battle that Made England' by Juliet Barker - surprisingly good read if you are into history; have now moved on to 'Riding Outside the Lines: International Incidents and other Misadventures with the Metal Cowboy' by Joe Kurmaskie.:read:
 
Just finished Beutiful Boy by David Sheff (a true story of a father's, the author, account struggling with his son's drug addiction).... moved to Tweaked by Nic Sheff (based on the same story but from the addict's memoirs, Nic Sheff is the addict). Great reading so far.
 
Capone: The Man and the Era

By: Laurence Bergreen. Awesome read. Great story on Al, family, his team, Elliot Ness, and those that knew Al outside of his gang life. The book also does a great follow-up on what happened to the main charachters later on in life. If you're into those Mafia type movies, this gives a great picture of what life was really like in the days of Prohibition.
 
I just got done reading "Knuffle Bunny Too: A case of Mistaken Identity" by Mo Willems...

It was a bedtime story for my four-year-old son ;)
 
Bringing this thread back.. Almost finished with Freakonomics (Levitt and Dubner), a book by a young economist who thinks outside the box that normal economists' think in. He compares unlikely real world situations and relates them, such as what school teachers and sumo wrestlers have in common, why drug dealers still live with their moms, the impact that legalizing abortion had on crime, how real estate agents are like the ku klux klan and more. I am in no way infatuated with economics but this is deffenatly a good read and gets the reader thinking more critically about simple topics. Thanks BananaUp!
