College financial aid adjustment?

Hey everyone since there are quite a few college students/grads maybe some of you can help me with this. I attended a school last fall for one quarter and received financial aid for the quarter not the year. Well I get a nice letter in the mail saying they adjusted my aid (note: a year later???) and I now owe them $900? I'm trying to figure out how this is possible. I called them but there is no one there high enough to help, and I can't find anything in the financial aid agreement that says anything about adjustment.

They said I have 30 days to pay or there giving it to collections. I don't see how they can give you money (correct amount) then yank it away a year later? :-s

i'd highly question that and not pay a dime until you get a definitive answer.

There's always someone at the school you should be able to talk to. the people at csuf were typically nice to me whenever I had questions for them.

Passed the classes. I was going to stay there until I didn't get one class I needed for the next quarter (I'm kind of at a bottleneck so there was only 5 classes I could take, and didn't get one...) so I went to the local junior college. Talked to the school about Financial aid and other stuff and they said it was fine, and I just wouldn't receive money for the time I wasn't at the school, nothing about taking away money previously awarded.
 
Sounds like a scam to me. Does the letter say who it's from? Is it the same people that gave you money? Why would they take money away from you. Especially after that long. I could see if maybe like a month into school they said ' hey, we mis-calculated, sorry, we're not giving you all the money'. Check it out with the school and make sure to get a 100% from them that you owe nothing. If it's not legit just ignore it. And if they persist then report them. To who? I dunno. Maybe the better business bureau.
 
I called the school and it's real. Not sure who to contact if the school doesn't agree since it is a state school.

I didn't go to the state school when I went back to the JC, and still haven't gone back. They gave me money for one quarter (the one I went for), and told me if I didn't enroll the next quarter I wouldn't owe anything or receive anything.
 
you sure they didn't give you too much money for the next quarter or anything? :?::lol:

Okay, now document the phone call, who you spoke to, and the details of the conversation. Now, call again and request another letter to clarify the issue, and make sure that it states that you owe no money. If their system can produce the error once, there's nothing assuring you that it won't occur again and have your account automatically sent to collections. Once you have an updated letter in hand, the power returns to the consumer.
