Chris King vs. Crank Bro's Headset

I'm looking to get a new headset for my bike. Any suggestions? It looks like everyone loves Chris king stuff but I was wondering if anyone uses the Crank Bro's or hope stuff.:?:

I can't tell the difference. They are both beautiful and seem to outlast any bike I put them on. Maybe the price?

ive used a chris king in the past. when i built my 5 spot this past year i went with a crank brothers 'iodine'. i dont notice any differences performance and i do feel confident with it. one thing to note is that the overall diameter of the top 'cups' is much smaller than that of a CK. it barely covers the diameter of the headtube, and even has some of the headtube visible underneath it.

A headset is a simple set of bearings. If you want it for the looks, go ahead and get King, Crank Brothers, Hope, or Cane Creek 110. A Cane Creek S-3 or other cheaper headsets will do just fine though.

I bought a brand new Ritchey Logic WCS headset off Ebay for $53 shipped. Research it and you'll find it gets good reviews. Just throwing it out there as another option.

I've been using a crank bros cobalt headset for about 6 months now. No problems installing, doesn't make any noise, serviceable. It's also nice that their customer service is right down the road if something did happen. It's installed on a XC bike with a rigid fork that's taken many terrible hits. So far so good. I believe the headset design is licensed by Cane Creek, so there are some years of development behind it.

A king headset will offer a color choice if you want to make your components match. It's also got that bling factor that most gear obsessed riders will notice and probably judge your worthiness by. The warranty and durability is well known and it will probably outlast the bike.

Chances are you won't have problems with any headset. Go with the design you like and whatever fits within your budget.

If you get a Crank Bros headset, and if CB headsets are like the rest of their products, there's probably very likely that you'll get a chance to experience the awesome Crank Bros customer service that is so often talked about.

If you get a King headset, you'll never know what kind of service the company offers.

I have ran King headsets on Dj bikes and the frames broke before the headset, They are good headsets, too bad almost all my bikes are internal headsets now
