Any know how to fix a Mitusbishi DLP TV? (NBR)

Ok my Mitusbishi DLP TV is broken for a few months now.....I don't miss it but the wife does. Tried a couple of things like replace bulged capacitors but no luck.

Anyone here is a certified Mitsubishi certified repair person?

If I can't fix it then I'll just buy an LCD TV but where can I dump/recycle the old one? It's big and heavy.#-o

I have a samsung dlp and the most common things that fail are either the lamp or the color wheel. Have you ruled those things out?

Lamp is good and checked by one repair man and not sure what color wheel is. The repair guy said it could be the "engine" what ever that means and still have not heard back.

I don't see any from Mitsubishi.

They spin at high rpm and the lamp shines through them to create the picture (in simple terms). I have had my dlp since they first came out and have had to replace the color wheel twice. The good news (for me) is the Samsungs are designed to easily replace the lamp and color wheel. The lamp takes all of five minutes to replace. The color wheel takes about 1.5 hours to complete, but it's not terribly difficult. My dlp has some on-board diagnostic features and it's not terribly hard to deduce if the lamp or color wheel has failed. Color wheels can literally shatter, they can squeal from bad bearings or they can just quit. The lamp may not come on if the color wheel isn't working.

Another thing that is less common, but not difficult to fix might be a fan (they may have several) and the unit may not light up if the fan isn't working. There may be a lot of information available on the net for the Mitsu's from do-it-yourselfers as there certainly is for the Samsung DLP's and parts are not hard to source. I've always been able to fix mine for a fairly attractive fraction of the normal charge others pay of $600 to $1,000 for service calls.

I am on my cell phone right now, but ill send you some links when I get home later. The bottom line is that thes Mits DLPs were crap. The most common failures are the DMD and FMT boards. The caps on these boards fail and the tv goes out. If its one of these and you cant replacd the caps yourself...i would toss the tv.

there is a simple way to get the errror code, it should be in the trouble shooting section of your manual. This can help dignose your problem.

Yeah these TVs are junk! Looked great when they were new and pricey as hell too. Oh well....
