Hey Everyone!!

The Short Explanation:
JensonUSA is providing bike support for the 100 Mile Club's Ultramarathon event in October. They are hosting a 100 mile marathon from Corona to Santa Monica on October 23 thru 24 and need cyclists to provide support for them, ie: pull a trailer or have a back pack that can carry food, water, first aid, Navigation and communication equipment.
Volunteers need to be able to bike 50 miles going 5 - 11mph with intermittent sprints. You need to be a great public face for cycling, and be a little crazy. You will be able to choose which leg of the race you want to cover (below. I will fill it out as volunteers are finalized) If you can volunteer more they are having real time training runs starting this weekend table of times below. PM me if you can attend.

Longer Explaination

The 100 Mile Club is a school program designed to teach kids about living a healthy life style. To fight obesity and and to gain an appreciation of physical activity. The Program was started by Kara Lubin at the School in Corona we will begin at. 18 years ago it started and today there are thousands of kids participating in this effort. They also teach kids about principals of self I quote from their site,

"Our philosophy is simple. We believe that every individual has the ability to achieve true personal success and a new level of physical fitness by Accepting the Challenge of running (or walking) 100 Miles at school during a single school year. These feelings of true personal success and fitness are ones that will carry participants to new levels of achievement in all areas: academics, athletics, and implementation of the valuable life skills identified in the bricks of Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success."

Personally I have had to fight my weight all my life, and two of my friends have fought from over 425 pounds each to be in fighting weight (195 and 250) to do this event. I want to be there to support them, and I want to be able to set a great example for these kids and support these elite athletes in this monuments effort. Due to the wild nature of the event and the attrition rates the times of stations at the 50, and 75 mile markers need to be flexible for either fast runners or runners not meeting their times. I will post more details on the logistics later but I NEED YOUR HELP! http://www.100ec.org/

STR has saved my life once before, and I love that I can always count on you

I won't be able to give an official answer for a few more weeks- potential conflict!
(If I am able to help, pencil me in for the Palos Verdes to Santa Monica stage)

I rode bike support for the competitors two weeks ago...
1. The runners were an absolute joy to meet
2. They very much appreciated our support
3. The event coordinators/volunteers were... awesome!

Very cool!

Edit: I won't be able to attend the event!

Can I get some more info on what's involved? I live a mile off the path there, and right down the street from Rio Vista Elementary, so I could help however...no trailer but I've got panniers for my road bike, and I don't think I've got anything scheduled.

Wait... Kids running or walking 100 miles in a single year school year? A school year is like 200 days! WTH? I bet I could log that many miles just walking to the bathroom.

PM me your email and I'll send you the specifics.

Wait... Kids running or walking 100 miles in a single year school year? A school year is like 200 days! WTH? I bet I could log that many miles just walking to the bathroom.

Isn't it sad to think that they don't do that much though? I used to ride my bike or walk the 4 miles to school. and now most kids are dropped off, or bussed then at school they rarely run.

Holy CRAP what a weekend. We were able to get 25 volunteers to help with this event and while logistically challenging it was a BLAST!! 30 runners started the event and as expected the 69 mile mark that began the climb up to Palos Verde was a deal killer for many, even a cyclist!!! in the end 11 people finished the first only 21 hours after starting, the last closer to 36 hours. It was great fun but next year I need to plan my naps better, Like actually taking one. I do NOT recommend staying awake for 37 hours. Thank you for your help and support!
