History Of Fullerton Loop

Fullerton native here too. I went to SHHS(Class of 82). Younger brothers, 1 went to Wilshire Jr High and the other Fern Drive Elementary later to Parks Jr High, then SHHS themselves(Classes 84 & 89). Yup used to ride my motorcycle around Coyote Hills/Sunny Ridge as well. Gilbert didn't go through yet and there were no homes above Rosecrans. Remember Motorcycle Hill on the corner of Beach and Rosecrans? There were a lot more fields to ride out there back in the day.

Back in the late '70s, we neighborhood kids had an awesome BMX jump track on the section of the Juanita Cook Trail between Valley View and Richman. There were also jumps in the creek at the courthouse that was filled in ages ago. We'd also do lots of riding in the oil fields that are now filled with homes and the Coyote Hills Golf Course. Later, the Parks Junior High BMX track became my home away from home. Used to watch in awe as this one kid would send HUGE tabletops off a hip jump by the sports field.

Bob Hadley

Yes and the same Bob Hadley that with Craig Kundig used to put on the races at East Highlands Ranch (Now where I live) and at Hulda Crooks Park. Where you got your trophy when you crossed the finish line. Still to this day some of the best races I every did. Craig still owns bike shops in the IE (support him please) and I don't know what Bob is doing. Bob was a real class act, I knew him only a little through my working at Buds in Claremont and Redlands Cyclery and the races. I think Bob also put on the 1st Norba race at the Super Bowl of Motocross at LA Coliseum, during a race intermission and it got booed and people threw beer I had heard, Can anybody shed more light on this?

Is that the same Bob Hadley that used to work for GT and NORBA back in the 90's?

What about Todd, Royce, Toby Henderson, the real nice guy who dressed as Honest Abe for halloween one year, Toby's friend that had the tat on his arm that said "mom" or "tattoo" or something like that. Sorry my memory of more details has faded.

If I can hide behind one of my favorite movie characters, then you can certainly hide behind one of your favorite bike brands:wave:

I'm up in the high desert, should you ever want to hook up for a ride.

I used to be nice, but now I'm a bit af a jackass... Crazysue can assure you of that.

Here's the status as I know it of the old gang:

Bill Jorem: I don't know, I'll ask Billy Broadfoot if he knows.
Billy Broadfoot: lives in Prescott
Richard Cunningham: I still ride with him frequently, and he's the same nice guy that you remember.
Pat Hadley: Lives in Yorba Linda... From what Richard tells me she is very active and coaches cross country running
Margaret & Jeff Day: Not too sure, but I believe they are still on South OC
Bike Beat founder-Jay (thanks Pat for the reminder): He's in Texas

Pat... that's the most famous Valkyrie ever:bang: Such a beautiful bike.

Cool;) I've got 2 boys going to Fern Drive now.

Thanks guys its always fun to listen to the stories of the old days of the Fully Loop. Myself, I was down in Costa Mesa and we would ride down in Laguna and in El Moro, and then in Whiting in the late 80's, never made it up to Fullerton.

I saw you looking just like your avatar on Sunday a.m.

What I know of Fully Loop:

First mountain bike broken in at The Loop 1995: $300 (for the bike)

Proposed to my wife on the hill that is now "closed to mountain bikes" Summer of 1997: $150 (for the ring)

Most recent mountain bikes - Mine and My Wife's broken in last week at The Loop: $4400 (for both bikes)

Riding to the spot where my wife said yes - every week: Priceless
:)

Another Laguna Road/Golden Hills/Parks/SHHS alum here. Grew up on Conejo Lane behind Parks and I still enjoy getting out on the loop when we visit my parents. I remember blasting through Hiltscher Park on my stingray, and cutting my teeth, my arms, etc. on the bmx track down by the tennis courts at Parks. I never knew that the trail had a name, let alone such a following until a couple of years ago.

Todd: Prescott
Royce: Prescott
Toby: I saw him a few years ago at Interbike...
Tattoo boy(Ha Ha): Chris Robinson
Not sure who Honest Abe was...

I went to Golden Hill, Wilshire then Fullerton, my children are Fern Dr. ,Parks, and Sunny Hills kids. Seen alot of changes in this town in the 46 years ive lived here.
You must live pretty close to me if your kids go/went to Fern.:) I live on N. Wanda Dr in the workin joe neighborhood:lol:.

He told a story of how he grew a beard that took 6 months and got the whole outfit, and took a nap the night of halloween and ended up sleeping right through halloween.

Not sure who Honest Abe was...

Along with Richard, there were a few other guys that were part of the Fully loop scene in the early 80's:

Dave Evans, Bob Nicholson

OMG!! I just started riding again in early Oct. and that is a blast from the past for me. Bob & Dave. I knew them and rode the loop with them back then. I worked with Bob Nicholson at Honda back then too. He was a REAL TRIP!!! Are they still riding? I think Bob moved to Arizona to retire.

Sorry, back to lurking!!!
Chris

Interesting thread...
I'm not quite a Fullerton Native (brought up in Palcentia) but my father went to Wilshire Jr HS back about 60 years ago and coached at Troy HS for some many years...

Royce moved in the early 90's like 91 or so.

I was in Junior Highschool and rode with him and Mikedabike, AKA Mike Vogeti quite a bit, Also richard, Chad Hues and John Poorsight.

Those guys would kick my ass up and down the trail all of the time.
