Ugh! I'm on my second cold this season. No flu yet but they've been nasty enough to make me not ride. I can only muster trail walks with our dog and I'm only doing those as he'd drive us nuts w/o exercise.
I had that gnarly flu starting 12-16, the really bad part (fever, chills, puking, delirious, lost my voice) was just a few days but I was feeling crappy for almost 3 weeks. Almost 2 weeks off the bike. Wierd thing was it started with a painful cough that came on quite suddenly. Wife had it first, then 2 days later...
FIghting cold, cough, congestion, bronchial crap, sinus pressure and general yuckiness hoping it doesn't become the flu everyone else is getting. Two weeks now... Hoping to ride this weekend.
Had a what seemed to be a sinus infection last thurs and fri (nasty thick mucus and sinus blockage) then seemed to be a cold sat and sun (runny nose watering eyes). It has now developed back into less but annoying mucus with drainage causing cough and an extremely sore throat. WTF!!!
Many that think they have the flue may have this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norovirus it is very common this year and flue shot does not help. Key is washing your hands and not touching your face. Get Clorox wipes and keep your keyboards and phones at work clean. Also wipe down your cell phone often. Stay away from those sick and tell co-works to stay home. http://www.cdc.gov/features/norovirus/
I am now sick for the 4th f$&@ing time this month!! I never get sick! What is going on??? I hate this, this time is the worst, very achy, congested, no nausea thank goodness. So over this crap though. Hope everyone feels better soon!
I was really sick a few months ago. It wasn't the flu, and there was no fever, but a severe upper respiratory infection. I did not sleep for three days straight since the cough was so bad, I could not rest at all. I started feeling claustrophobic since my nose was really stopped up, too. I finally went to the doctor and got some medicine, but it didn't work for another day. I was in tears, it was so bad. Hope I never get that again. BTW, of those who got the flu, did you get the flu shot? Just curious since I am not a believer of the flu shot.
I got the dreaded flu thanks to my kids the day after Xmas & it took about 3 weeks to shake it! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
So many are sick right now–relatives, coworkers. I've dodged the bugs up to now, and normally go down with one every couple/few years. I honestly don't remember the last...so I'm prolly due. As me doc sez..."whatever yer doing, keep on doing it." That's what I tell the wifers when I crack one Doctor's orders!
I am starting to get a fever, my wife and kids just had it for the past week.Having serious cough and chills. I also have a test tonight for one of my classes and don't really want to show up all sick an nasty. I may have to prove to the instructor that I am actually sick.
2 yrs..nothing bad, I work from home - 4 days on site working and freakin sick on the last day #-o must be the contagious co-workers - this sucks! ...ugh
Dean, I had Norovirus a few years ago. It is mostly characterized by vomiting and stomach pain, not really respiratory symptoms. usually when people say "stomach flu" its norovirus. I couldnt keep anything down for almost a week. Best diet plan ever, haha. One of the major flus this year, according to my doc, starts with a severe painful cough, then fever, then hoarseness, congestion and more coughing. Just like mine. (one night when I was still getting over it I was watching the daily show on comedy central and Jon stewart sounded quite hoarse. Guess he got it too!)
At my job, I dont reallt deal with a large number of customers, and only 3 coworkers who I can easily stay away from. And we're all really good at trying to stay home when contagious. But my wife works at starbucks...I catch all my colds from her!
From the research I did: colds: (rhinovirus and coronavirus) Gradual onset, usually no serious fever, body aches, or exhaustion. no nausea or vomiting. No loss of appetite. Symptoms usually limited to neck up, and sore throat is often present. Symptoms generally last 5-9 days Flu: Sudden onset, often fever, chills, body aches and exhaustion, coughing and chest pain as well as headaches and congestion. sometimes nausea/vomiting and loss of appetite. Sore throat not always present. Symptoms, especially coughing and weakness, can linger for 9-20 days.
Saw doc today. Got the flu, started 2 days ago while in Vegas on business as light cough, then yesterday severe cough, chills, lo-grade fever. Haven't felt this crappy in years. This 2-3 weeks thing you guys are saying is not very optimistic.
The 6 doctors i work for are advising us to recommend over the counter meds. I like Tylenol cold/sinus. Drink your orange juice. focus on taking the meds correctly. Every four hours if it says so. When you take them as directed they work much better. Get your rest and dont drink alcohol. It makes the meds work less. I've had it 2 times since Dec. working in a dr. office and seeing all the sick people do NOT help. But luckily for me I know the symptoms and I start taking meds really quickly. Both instances were about a week only.
Danimal, dont despair. for me, even though I felt like crap for three weeks, it was only really bad for about 4 days. it was just the first 2 days that I had fever, and one night of puking (which you may not even get-my wife didnt). then a few days of chills, lethargy, and bad sinus congestion/headache. then 2 weeks of slowly getting better, still coughing a lot but able to function. Went for a ride after 1 week even though i felt like I shouldnt but i did better than I thought (climbed cholla) and it didnt make me any worse. Then i rode again 4 days later, then 4 days after that, then back to normal riding schedule (mostly). the exercise cleared me out better than any medecines. It will simply take a while to feel 100% again. disclaimer: I am not advising exercise as treatment! If you dont think youre up to it...dont.
