    Steel is Real: 1996 GT

My first MTB led me down the poorly chosen, costly path of upgraditis. The frame and front derailleur are the only original parts on it today.

Check out the handle bars on the stumpy. I think they were Easton hyper lights with a 5 degree rise!!! A truly great bike with a cush big seat. The pic was taken near the bottom of chutes before it was there or before I found it!

I'm not sure what year it is, because its been around the family for so long, but I've just converted it to a ss and its given the old Diamondback some new life. It's still beat up, but fun.

Is it a 1" threaded stem?

If so, there are several solutions currently available.

I can't remember, talked to a vintage bike guru about it who said I was basically screwed, so I forgot about it after that.

OK, I'm not even joking but one guy I ride with takes his 1998 rigid mint green stumpjumper down rocket. It climbs like a champ but I can't imagine what it's like down rocket. haha

p.s. he just took his "mountain rack" (over the back tire rack) off last week.
