Ride Report Yet ANOTHER act of (STR) kindness......

Questions:

*What surprised you most?
(the pain, the distance, the climbs, cramps, mental fatigue, Holy Jim.. finish line joy)

*Was there ever a point (in the race) when you wanted to quit?

*What changes do you plan on making... next year?
(nutrition, distance training, pushing yourself on race day, conserving energy)

*2012... Counting Coup or Vision Quest? :)
If you plan on riding the CC again, how much time do you think you can knock off you 2011 time?

Thank Dino and company that did this. It's like watching an episode of extreme makeover home edition for folks in need but with BIKES!

Questions:

*What surprised you most?
(the pain, the distance, the climbs, cramps, mental fatigue, Holy Jim.. finish line joy)
1) All the encouragement given by strangers, just totally awesome
*Was there ever a point (in the race) when you wanted to quit?
1) Never wanted to quit, but I did question my sanity when I was laying on my back with the bike on top of me
after going over the bar on Upper Holy Jim. Telling myself"oh that one huirt"
*What changes do you plan on making... next year?
(nutrition, distance training, pushing yourself on race day, conserving energy)
1) Nutrition was not a problem, if any thing I carried to much, went thru 3 bottles of water supplement and half of my Camel back
2) More distance training and riding more of the course to get familiar with it.
3) I honestly should have pushed myself more, I had enough energy I was moving down Trabuco Creek Rd. passed 3 other riders.
*2012... Counting Coup or Vision Quest? :)
If you plan on riding the CC again, how much time do you think you can knock off you 2011 time?
1) I want to do CC again, going in I felt I could do high 7 hour, I somehow feel I did not accomplish it. I want to shave an hour off it.
also I need to go thru the bike completely before next year.

A few weeks ago, JSD completed the Counting Coup ... :bang:

Next up: Over the Hump Race Series!

And after that...
12 Hour race? 24 Hour Team event? :-k

None of this would have been possible without the support of STR members!
Well done everyone!

First let me start by thanking all the STR members that made all this possible, you guys and gals are just awesome. The Rwanda ride was really great riding new trails for me, the views were post card picture perfect. Everyone riders, volunteers all are so friendly and helpful at the event. Looking forward to Over the Hump, I have already signed up to do the first race. The competion will be a whole lot different than Counting Coup. I have really enjoyed the bike, it is just right pick. I have already logged over 700 miles on it this year. Looking forward to riding more new trails this year, thank you.

12 Hours of Temecula? I have to look into that and see what it is about.:-k

Thank you all for making this happen. Had a great time, this race is more of a sprint. Did great on the climbs, passed a few on the climbs, the long flats I tended to run out of gas, then get a second wind. The bike was flawless, no problems. Will try to make as many of these I can. Hope to see you out there. Meet some STR members that I have not had a chance to meet before. Don't think I could do 3 laps at the pace they are doing, will stick to the beginner class again. Finished 11th out of 34 in class, time of 46:18. Thank you Dino, Stuart, Jaime, and La Habra Cyclery and everyone else.

I loved this story. I'm fortunate to be a part of the STR community. To Dino and those involved who participated in expressing the heart of benevolence, I salute you!! You guys/gals RULE!!!

Way to go JSD!

Reading this post made me smile...looking at the pic made me smile even more since I'm not the only one eating JSD's dust

JSD's first-ever (bike-related) trophy!

Over The Hump.... June 7, 2011

Long story short...
I approach JSD. Asked him how "he did." He told me where he finished. I asked him if he picked-up his winner's mug. He told me he missed a mug by one spot. I told him, "no, I think you won." JSD replied, "no, I think I missed by one spot." I tried to "do the math" with him- no luck. I asked 3 or 4 people if my math was wrong- no one had an answer. I walked over to the scorer's table... Sure enough, JSD had indeed earned a mug.

Moral of this story: If JSD ever questions me again... (mug #2 is going home with me)

Congratulations!
JSD was VERY strong on the NORTHSIDE climbs (passed quite a few people)

wow! i did not know about this. i definitely would have loved to contribute if i was involved at the time and while i only recently met JSD i can tell right off the bat that he is an awesome person! this was a great act! just wow!

JSD - I HATE YOU!!!!!!!! Just kidding man. Congrats on your success. So happy the new bike has worked out for you.

JSD kills it out there!!!! If I can climb half as good as he can when I grow up, I'll be a happy camper! The sensitive sap that I am, every week when I see him shredding it up, it brings a tear to my eye. I'm blessed to know such an amazing crew of people.

Was looking at results this morning to see where I was in the points standing and noticed my finish was not 10th, they had another scoring update. I finished 9th ah yeeesssss. Dino next mug is yours, thanks for everything.
