What a great way to spend the weekend! Those pictures say it all! Thanks to Allison, Winston, Andy, J_Sims, and Nancy for all the excellent photo coverage. It was great to finally ride and meet with some new peeps… Sprockethead, XXXspokes, CC, Edog, XXX_youth, FoesNasty, DenMother, Phat Tire and Dino Brown [there were a few others my apologies for not remembering your names] and of course riding once again with the super Manns, TKblazer, Winston, Dean, STJunkie, sheclimbs and franky. As always STR showed some great camaraderie all weekend, it seemed like this group has been riding together for years. So thanks to all that made this weekend a memorable one:bang:
I’ve been to Mammoth a few times snowboarding, but this was the first time on the bike and I must admit I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions both good and bad. If you’ve never been to the mountain to ride… it certainly is a must do, even if you’re opposed to lift assisted riding. Like others have said there is a trail/links of trails that will satisfy every whim. For me it was the downhill that was the big draw… initially all the snow/rain/wind of Saturday had me truly terrified[is that ok to admit?] as I’ve never ridden in conditions like those. But a couple runs on my own before catching up with the big group and most of my fears where gone.
Some things I learned this weekend riding in full on armor. It takes getting used to. It takes getting used to wearing the chest/back/shoulder protection. And it certainly takes getting used to a limited field of vision in a full faced helmet and goggles. By the end of my runs on Sunday I was somewhat comfortable but not nearly as much as I liked. This certainly affected my ability and confidence in attacking some of these trails. I cannot wait for next season… so until then I gotta find a place to practice.
