What and where is the 'Flying B singletrack'?

It seems to be attached to the warriors society.

The Warriors Society and Flying B parted ways. I think the last WS event was in 2006. All the effort to build trails was wasted.

I don't miss it too much because the landowner runs a mulching operation and spreads the stuff all over the hills. The smell is something I never got used to. (I also felt there was a risk of inhaling sawdust from mulched palm trees).

They lie about the temps. In the 24 hr race it was at least 105.

It WAS right off blackstar canyon, by the RV park. Bring some moonshine and a shotgun, set up camp and race!

I raced out there a couple times, first time was with 'Partners in Grime' for the first (and last) 12 Hours of OC, then did a few of the shimano sundown sprint series. It was a pretty cool place for local races, too bad it didn't pan out, have some good memories from those races!

like doug said, the smell of the mulch, coupled with the 105 degree heat during the 24hrs of OC race was brutal. that course had tons of climbing in it as well....bleh. :lol:

flying B - 1st gps from spring race. other was "practice" with J-dirt ahead of 24 hour)

the entry just before b-star gate. was a fun place to ride while it lasted. nice job by WS to build it.

seem to recall some small mods made to trail from race to race. i believe they may hav shortened it a bit but cannot recall specifics. had a Little of everthing i guess although cetainly nothing too tech

btw- racing here is how i learned of STR. my wife still curses you WS

We had an agreement to build trails and hold events our at the Flying B. We built a few miles of singletrack. Held 10-15 events. Problem was that we were dealing with 2 land owners.....one present and one absent. We could build trails....but only by hand(WS is volunteers only)....they would not allow us to use heavy equipment. We pretty much had free rain to build wherever we wanted. However, the operators at the green waste facility would continually dump/destroy/grade roads and trails without checking to see if they could....the owner would then claim he knew nothing about it. Then take 1/2 of the money we brought in for the event. Yes the trails were tough, but we did the best we could with what we had.

The trails are on private property, so you could only ride on "practice" days, which there was usually only one per event. Otherwise it was a closed trail.

At the end we just decided that we had waaaay too many hoops to jump through along with too many failed promises......so we abandoned that venue.

After racing the 24hrs of O.C. solo at the Flying 'B' I'd say...

What: Horrible memories of tons and tons of climbing, stench filled, heat vacuumed, vomit producing trails.

Where: Somewhere near hell.

But that's just my opinion. I suppose some people might find it fun.:?:
