Officially 1 week away. I'm so excited for my first CC. I'm still not sure if i'm going to pedal over the finish line line or crawl, but, thats half the fun. Hope the weather holds off. Who's going to suffer with me ?
Good luck to all the participants. As a veteran of both the VQ/CC, I can tell you that your first time will be the hardest. But if you've trained, you will do alright. The light show going up Blackstar in the morning is worth the price of admission. I'll be out taking pictures (hopefully on upper HJ) and if you give me your plat number I will email you the photos.

Do they still give out those eagle feathers if you finish the VQ? I remember people always wore those on their camelbaks. Haven't seem one on the trail in almost ten years now.
I am ready as I am going to be. Done all my training and ready for a week of rest before the event. The singlespeed is tuned and ready. If the stars and moon align looking fir 7 hours but realistically more like 7:30 in vq.
I'm done with my training as well. Final training ride was with Rox from MS to the peak. I felt great. I'm as rdy as i'm gonna be. Now a week of rest, eating good, hydrating, and light spinning. I have checked my bike for a full tune up. Chain wear is looking good. Adjusted my EBB for chain tension and torqued bolts. Chain is clean and lubed. Last step for the bike is maybe new tubes. I've had no issues with the tubes and am bringing 2 with me. I just might want fresh ones to start out. Maybe not. I hadn't checked my brake pads for a while and just happened to remember. My fronts were about .5mm. I'm glad i checked. New pads in front and already bedded in. Rears are gtg. Tune up done. Now, what am i going to do about a light? hmmmm.... Finally, i still need to organize my Camelbak. Tools, parts, clean bladder, and nutrition. Since it may rain, maybe a windbreaker. Can you tell i'm getting anxious? heh. BTW, even though i'm "only" doing the CC, i'm hoping for 7hr finish. Don't think it's gonna happen, but, thats my goal.
I hope it's overcast and cloudy for you guys. Because when you hit the Main Divide it may look like this. Have fun to all you folks riding next week.
good luck to everyone. Hopefully it rains before one more time, because that dirt is super dry and loose. Looking forward to all the rr and pics
I'm as ready as I'm going to be at this point! Right now I'm more stoked for the people I'll be seeing out on the course, and that I haven't ridden most of those trails in about a year. It's funny, I flew out of John Wayne last week and right over the course, and remember thinking "you know, from up here, it doesn't look all that bad". After which I laughed out loud at myself, and the person next to me looked at me annoyed. If they only knew... Good luck to everyone else doing it! I'll see y'all saturday morning.
Looking forward to a week of rest as well. I did go practice on UHJ today: BE AWARE...IT'S VERY VERY LOOSE! I can still only clean a few switchbacks but blew my husband away how I charge those boulders and bowl right over them...oh well, guess I'll always suck at switchbacks but boulders are funner to ride than them, anyways! Strobe: I have no doubt you'll finish strong!!...no worries.
Good luck to everyone in their quest! Ride safe, race fast! (Next year I know to click on that DVD botton!)
Fell off the training wagon last week with work. Still good-ish to go though. How about you all post your projected time? I'm shooting for 5:45 CC
You cc/vq guys and gals are all maniacs! Ride safe and ride hard! Rox, just charge them switchbacks, lock the rear brakes, and skid through them :bang: if im not riding that day, then you might see me on Motorway with a camera.
This will be my first VQ, and I am ready as I am going to be. Happy with the training (even with a crash two months ago that left me with 30 stitches in my face and mouth and a fractured jaw) and I am looking forward to a light week of spinning and taking it easy. Going by my training times, looking for a 8 hr VQ, but you never know. Good luck to all racer, and a early thank you to all the volunteers.
Not ready!!! Was off the bike for about a month due to injuries and just got a full week of riding in. Will have 2 weeks going into the VQ. It's going to hurt!
Yes, I've been in charge of getting those tied for the past several years now and they're ready to be handed out As far the event, this will be my 7th Pow Wow and you can prepare all you can, then come event day, things can either go as planned or you start having issues right from the go. I know someone who cracke his frame on the climb at Black Star and his day was done and others with cramping issues or crashes which cost them time. Just go out and soak in the experience especially you 1st timers. I guarantee you'll never look at that mountain the same again. I expect to be there at the finish to collect my 5th VQ. BTW Brownie, the DVD is from the 2004 Pow Wow
