Vail Lake DH/SD Race, November 8 & 9

I just got off the phone with one of my buddies who is "in" with some of the top US riders. Eric Carter, Rich Houseman, among others.

Word from the horse's mouth (EC) is that there's going to be a full on DH & Super-D race weekend at Vail Lake coming up on November 8th. :-k

I don't know all the details (maybe EC will chime in) but there will be some big-time sponsors such as Fox and Mongoose that are involved. There will be a shuttle service going Saturday which anyone can take advantage of, racer or casual, it doesn't matter. :bang:

There will also be a lot of other event type things going on so if you're not racing it will be chill to just hang out and enjoy some of the festivities. Live bands, riding-related competitions, and schwag of course!

Hopefully some official info will come out soon, but it IS for sure taking place and from what he's told me it sounds like it should be an awesome weekend. Mark your calendars... :bang:  :drunk:

EDIT: Yes there will be Super D also!!! thank you Atomrat for reminding me.

Edit2: Updated with link http://www.pcamtb.com/events.html

This is pretty cool. I am not a DH racer, but I will be out to support them. A DH race in my backyard.

Will they have Super-D? I am considering doing that in the future.

Interesting. I was going to head out there that weekend too to pre-ride the 12 hour course. Do you know if there will be any conflicts with that?

I think the DH course doesnt connects in any way with the trails of 12hrs of Tem.

Depends. The original plan was to use the Dam climb as the shuttle road. Riding up it as the shuttle is going on could be dangerous. You may wish to check before you go.

Sweet! Thanks for the info Phil! I will be there if I can!:bang:What time is everybody going to be there?

Really wanted to keep this off the forums until we could officially announce it....we are working on an event that will be lots of fun, website will be up by end of Monday and it will answer a bunch of questions you will have about schedule and other things,

this was scheduled to be the parks opening weekend but we have had no weather and the dirt is like flour to build with, so this is the soft opening to let riders get a small taste of the resort and its potential.

so that riders that are interested can reserve the weekend on their schedules we will be doing a DH and a Super D.

Hello Everyone heres the info on this event.

Hello here is the info below on the upcoming event. EC and I did a bike thru the facility today and will be working very hard the next 3 weeks to get the courses dialed.

I hope you all can join us and please note we have combined the racers & chasers XC race along with the Mongoose Hillbilly Bike Bash in order to accommodate all racers at every level and discipline.

We are also looking for volunteers to help on race days and potentially prior to the event with some trail work anyone who is interested please contact Dale at [email protected].

This really is an opportunity to show the owner of Vail Lake that there is enough of a scene to support a real bike park there in the future that is a destination for all disciplines of biking. As you may assume it takes a good bit of staff and money to open a bike park and in time it may actually be a reality at Vail Lake, but not without your support.

Mongoose Hillbilly Bike Bash Nov 8 & 9, 2008

You don’t have to know how to spell bicycle to ride one, so grab your tooth, your coon hat, your sister and wife, (it's okay if they are one and the same) and enjoy a hoot and a holler at the First Annual Mongoose Hillbilly Bike Bash.

Imagine a serious gravity event mashed together with fun and games Redneck style! We call it the Mongoose Hillbilly Bike Bash and it’s sure to be a classic, when you combine tons of fun both on and off the bike with over 300 friends, family and MTB enthusiasts. Plan on a family affair that people will be talking about for years, with a weekend of racing, camping and redneck games like toilet seat horseshoes, Slingshot Shootout & the Redneck Sled Pull this is a weekend not to miss.

The event will be held at the beautiful Vail Lake Resort located halfway between major populations of Los Angeles and San Diego in the city of Temecula, CA. The resorts amenities include biking, waterslides, swimming, miniature golf, bar, deli, general store alongside 500 RV sites and a dedicated tent camping area.

The FOX Super D will headline the first day of competition on Saturday, November 8. FOX Super-D is a hybrid event that incorporates both Cross Country and Downhill elements. Throw in a free-for-all mass start on the wide hillside at Vail Lake and FOX Super D promises to be a spectacular sight. Did we mention it all goes off in true Hillbilly fashion with a guy wearing a coonskin cap and belly hanging overalls? In addition we are adding the Racers and Chasers XC race on Saturday.

On Sunday, November 9 the action moves over to the Mongoose Hillbilly Downhill course where we have a fast course mixed with man made, natural features, jumps and classic So Cal soil for your racing enjoyment. Dress up like your favorite hills dweller and take a shot at best Hillbilly costume while racing for your shot at the STUMP.

Great cant wait to meet you. The bike park has a long ways to go. EC has built some great jump lines ala A-line style with multiple jumps in the flow (this is not the DH course we will be racing in NOV) but the dirt is simply powder for jump building until we get some rain. They will pack in nicely and it will start to come together. The race should be way fun.

If you look at the picture of EC on the http://www.pcamtb.com/about.html
you can see a sweet gap jump at Vail unfortunately its just to soft to hit it up at the moment, but give it time. Until then lets race and have fun!

Yeah, I'm stoked to go do another race. It's all just so fun.

And don't worry about getting the trails packed down. It will happen when it happens. It's better to wait for a good trail than to get hasty and be stuck with a powdery mess. (but if Big Bear has taught me anything, powdery messes are great cushion when you stack it up )

Good luck building the trails, and hopefully I'll see you that sunday.

This is going to a lot of fun Dale from D26 and i have been bustin tail to get this thing going, as Dale has said it is a chance to show the resort owners that the park will be supported with riders.

disclaimer: this is not a bike park opening...the trails that are going to make up the park are to soft to be used, we have a ways to go with a full trail network, and with out rain it is useless to try and build stuff.

the courses being used are the first 2 DH runs that will eventually be the bike park, the SD will have some flat and power climbs at the bottom to give it a balanced race course,

thanks,

E.C.
