They have mountainbiking in the Olympics already but since Americans don't do well in it they added BMX to keep NBC and the american audiance happy USA USA USA.

funny how the US invented Mtn Biking yet the rest of the world excels in it...

  7. Pro's- since it is a short course it will allow more tv coverage. Can't think of any other pros, if you think of any post em.

Con's- it only 2.7 miles and like 700+ feet of climbing. Its not technical, and looks more like STXC or cyclocross. No single track. Its located in a suburban park. Also it is a bad impression of mountain biking, like if you have never seen mountain biking and then come across this, it might not seem to appealing. Thats all for now.

    Google in on the action.

I'm digging Google's olympic cycling themed moniker that is up today.

or you can look at it from the uninitiated and say that this will entice someone that has shown interest but thought well maybe it's too scary for me. this might peak their interest enough to get them out on the trails? :?:

  11. Well that would be lying beacuse if someone is scared then there obviously not a mountain biker, there a cyclocross jumper. So I just think that the world needs to see real mountain biking not unscary riding as you call it.

hey...it'll just be fun to watch....not as challenging, but ya never know...with a fast pace and lots of riders it could be funny as well! In case you didn't know here's the TV schedule

    Day 14 Friday, August 22
    3:00 Women's Cross-Country

    Day 15 Saturday, August 23
    3:00 Men's Cross-Country

I'm not sure of the time since the NBC page has been wrong so far, so go to their page at http://www.nbcolympics.com/ when closer to the event. We'll see if they can pull this off:?:

Was just watching some Olympic coverage. Report was that President Bush got to meet with our volleyball teams after he rode the Olympic mountain bike course. No reports of crashing this time.

TV coverage never shows the true level of difficulty anyways. The air is really bad and it never seems to let up.This is a cx course and our true mtb'ers will not shine here.

I'll give The Prez a few cool points.

The Prez rides a Trek Top Fuel 98. (link)

Don't know about that...but it's cool that we have a Prez that rides a mt. bike AND uses his position to ride the Olympic course. I know I would!

There's a difference between mountain biking and racing. There is a bit of overlap, but going on a mountain bike ride and racing a xc course are two different beasts.

I mentioned this before, but you can ride the Fully Loop at a casual pace and it'll be no big deal. But ride The Loop at race pace with your heart rate at a constant 170+ bpm and jockeying for position. It'll take on a whole new dynamic.

This short course doesn't have a lot of elevation, but there are a few interesting sections that will make this course highly tactical.
