Great news! Good thing you live in Pedro, its a small community. If you lived in the OC, LA, the Valley or the San Gab Valley where I am, I guarantee you'll never ever see your bikes again. I used to work in Pedro, and its like Mayberry, is a great town except for thieves. You are very lucky. San Pedro Rocks!

That is great news! It's also great that he got arrested for a felony and not a misdemeanor!

Thanks! Hoping to get more good news Monday.

Well he didn't admit to stealing them, just buying them in which due to Prop 47 and changes to the property crime laws, possessing a stolen bike is NO LONGER a felony..., it is now just a misdemeanor. The people who voted for this clearly don't know how much many of our bikes cost. In some cases, more than some cars!

Fantastic news!!! Half way there, hope the other two can be recovered. Some sleazy people in this world, but most are good I try to remind myself!

Great news!!! Hopefully the other bikes will be recovered too.

Your comment "Well he didn't admit to stealing them, just buying them in which due to Prop 47 and changes to the property crime laws, possessing a stolen bike is NO LONGER a felony..., it is now just a misdemeanor. The people who voted for this clearly don't know how much many of our bikes cost. What started as a bad dream or an even worse April fools joke, turned into a miracle on Easter Day. So happy for you and really hope to see you at the Rwanda Ride in a few weeks.

Since these bikes are worth well over $960, is it still considered a felony?

Stealing a bike out of a garage whether locked or not...is a property crime. Probably will be filled as a wobbler. Meaning that it will start as a felony but if restitution is made (making the victim whole) and successful completion of formal probation they can file a 17b motion and get the felony re-filed as a misdemeanor. Note: serious felonies are not wobblers. Making the victim whole in this case is not just getting the bikes back but the having the perpetrator pay for any damages to the bike. Gene needs to let the district attorney know about the damage to his returned bikes so the claim gets into the court minutes. So if the offender ever wants that 17b motion granted they would need to make Gene whole.

Thanks for this info Steppie. When I speak to the detective tomorrow about what has transpired so far, I'll know more. Hopefully the whereabouts of the Niner.

Just because some of the bikes were recovered, doesn't mean you can't make a claim for those bikes as well. If they were damaged, as a result of theft, then the Policy should cover the loss to make repairs. Thankfully you were smart to have photos of your bikes to show the insurance adjuster.

It scares me everyday I will come home and find my bikes gone... even with insurance, some of them cannot be replaced. If you ever find out how the theft occurred let us all know should be can take precautions in the future.

It cracks me up (although sad) that the theives took off the Rocky Mountain and Fox decals... the bike was worth much more with them on! Dumb thief!

Yes Pam, I'm going to make a claim on any damages and also the tools that were taken. I need to call the claim adjuster and let him know what has transpired since I had last spoke with him. Thanks!

Also, I just came from the pawn shop I was at last Wed and it turns out that they have my NINER. I've already been down there and saw it there and it looks to be in good condition. That's 3 recovered or soon to be recovered!

I have to call the detective who is working the case so we can proceed with getting it back! Now only the Red Rocky Mountain grocery getter SS has still to be recovered, but the cops already have a lead on that. Perhaps the guy who pawned the Niner was the same guy who was arrested Friday. The Pawn shop has his signature and thumb print! If it's the same guy they arrested, he has more to explain or if not, they have a 2nd perpetrator to arrest!

I just read about this: https://bikeindex.org/ which is supposed to be a page dedicated to getting the word out on stolen bikes.

Thanks. I'm going to do that and finally record my serial numbers, I did before, but the Tribal was a replacement frame and the road bike has been changed over from a Redline to a Specialized to the Solo that it is now and just "never got around to it"
