Looking around at alternative options for wheelsets for my Specialized Epic 29er, I'd like to build up some Stan's, although they don't list a hub that is 142+ compatible. I currently run the stock wheels that shipped with the bike in 2010 and race on the Roval Carbon Wheels. The stocks have been pretty much beaten into submission (rim and hubs) and I'd rather not race the carbon fibers where I'm going to destroy them. At Sycamore just SE of Poway this weekend I raced the Marathon and that first mile I kept cringing every time my 30 psi 2.25" tubeless tires bottomed out against the rims...each of the five laps. Thread and internet search has revealed nothing, other than using stock 142 requires minor derailleur and brake adjustment when switching between the two, but no elaboration as to why, or why there is no adapter from 142 to 142+, nor is there an explanation that I can locate where the "+" differs from the standard, other than to have me use Specialized's line of wheels. Rather than PM Ghisallo, with the large number of S-bikes out there, I thought this might be worthy of a wider discussion. I know I'm confused.
