That cannot be resolved.

I demoed a couple road bikes last weekend. One was even a carbon fiber. My back and ass said no way.
My ass said "I don't give a F@#% if you are $7,000 bucks, you are bone jarring"

My legs said "Oh c'mon, its sooo lightweight, you'll get used to it"

My shoulders said "Oh yeah, Mr. legs? How about me after a century ride?"

I don't even like hard tails, these are even worse.
I have the money but I want to live at least until 60. BTW--take a look at a 40-50 something road biker and tell me they look as young as the same aged mountain biker. They look spent IMO.

An old man like yourself should be looking at a comfort/fitness type of road bike.

yeah u are right...will look into them. I'd have to get carbon fiber tho...its a mind thing...7005 aluminum lumping down the road makes my old teeth chatter...also it speeds up dementia due to the constant rattling to your head....didn't think being hatched in 1965 meant its AARP time, lol

There's a couple of the fitness style that are virtually road bikes in terms of the components, wheels, and carbon fiber.

Obviously, I'm going to recommend you look at this one, as I have selfish reasons, but it also has the shock-mitigation qualities of the Domane series of Endurance road bikes:

There's others by the S-company, but I don't agree with their business practices of wiping small dealers out and coming up with BS excuses for forcing their proprietary specs so you have to buy (or wait 6-8 weeks for because they're out of stock) certain parts that should be no brainers.

There may be a few others, but these are the ones I'm familiar with and I've seen some people doing the 50-75 mile distances for Gran Fondo's.

I would stay away from buying a road bike and slapping a flat bar on it...that usually changes the geometry too much to be a comfortable, or stable bike.
