Anyone here planning on doing the Solvang Century, March 10th?

I am planning on registering. I am getting a professional fitting on the 31st, which entitles me to free registration for the event. After the fitting I will register. My plan is to get a hotel room for Friday and maybe Saturday night somewhat near the event but not too close as I hear they jack up the price.

A bunch of us from the shop go each year. We don't register until ride day.....just in case the weather is horrendous. We just end up making a weekend away with friends.

We usually stay in Buelton.....but this year we have our timeshare in Solvang, so that should be pretty cool.

Brian, I do about the same or I wait till just before as I don't want to ride in conditions like last year. But I will be going providing the weather is not to bad. I'm also doing the Hemet Double and the RAGBRAI (ride across Iowa 500+ miles in July). I might throw in a few more doubles this year too.

Two guys I work with rode RAGBRAI this summer.
They said they had a great time. Home made food at every stop.

"SCHLONGVANG"#-o - I am there. I'm glad you can sign-up late. I was concerned about the $ commitment vs. weather too

RAGBRAI- I was born in Iowa so thinking about doing this one maybe next year? I've heard it called Drunk Brai too.:drunk:

It'll cost you the same as I think only late registration is open now, so no additional cost. I'm going up Friday night and then register when I get there. I plan on leaving here around 2 pm on the 9th.

We are going up but have decided not to do the organized ride. We will instead head out and do the route backwards.

Mike, where are you planning on staying? I am going up with a good friend of mine who is doing the 50 miler. If he feels good he will keep going.

Update: I just booked at room in Goleta at the Holiday Inn Express for like $180. There is a $100 room on Yahoo Travel in Goleta but they only had a single queen room. I couldn't find anything in Buellton or Solvang but I didn't try that hard either.

Nope. I'm heading out to Arizona on Sunday 3/11 to hike the Havasupi Indian Reservation for a week.

I am thinking of swapping days off this week at heading to Solvang.
    Here is what I know:
The day of reg is expensive
I could have some pretty crappy traffic getting there, I won't be able to leave until at least 4 or 5pm on friday
I will most likely sleep in the truck the night before, where, I don't know yet but I don't have a room hence the very last minute trip
I have a new Ti road rig arriving Thursday or Friday, I figure what better way to give it a run thru!

I am asking, is it worth it or should I stay here....there are places to ride here too but I could sure use a big group ride!

    1x1,

Come along. Check out hotels.com yahoo travel for rooms. I'm staying Goleta to avoid the chaos of Solvang. I'm shooting you a PM with my cell phone number to contact me if you wish.

Neil, I poached some floor space, otherwise I'd invite you along with me. I think you should still head on up.

    Hey Folks --

Look for me at Mile 8 (on Santa Rosa Road) in the AM and at about Mile 98 (at the bottom of Ballard Canyon on Chalk Hill) in the PM.

I'll be the one in the blue brightroom.com vest and/or bright terra green t-shirt with a dark grey baseball cap on (might also have my black and yellow PI riding jacket on depending on how cool it is). I'm shooting pics of all of you, so SMILE (and show me your bib numbers!!!) as you roll past.
