Not sure if its close to the fires but any word on Temecula/Vail Lake? Selfishly I was hoping to ride there wednesday morning but I am guessing the air conditions are pretty bad?:?:
So far air quality will be your only concern from everyting I've heard, there isn't any fire near that part of Temecula. The fire that was in the area was the very western edge of Ranco California, north of De Luz and that is under control I believe.
With all the wind... I wouldn't risk being outside exercising... at least not for a few days. Never know what kind of crap is floating around. We are somewhat surrounded by smoke.
Thanks man. :bang: Luckily, a relative in Jennifer's family has "connections" so we were hooked up with a hotel (free) until Friday if needed. We will be moving in with my wife's mom for the interim...
Mt. Miguel/Sweetwater... Real bummer for those of you that have lost your homes in this fire. Here are a few photos that I took early this morning of Mt. Miguel by early afternoon the fire worked it's way into the Sweetwater preserve. The rest of the shots show the devestation once the fire had made it's way down to the trails and near the reservoir. For those of you who've ridden the trail system at Sweetwater it looks like the whole place has been taken out by the fire. If you look closely the hut is still standing. There were at least five choppers working this area trying to protect a community of newer homes on one of the peaks and keeping the fire away from the Sweetwater Res. since it is our water supply and they're afraid of contamination. D
Here is a shot from the train station in Carlsbad (Poinsetta) yesterday just before 11AM looking south. (Crappy Phone Cam)
Good news How does it look out there? My family are waiting to come back until tomorrow morning if everything looks ok. The weird part was that on the news they were saying that the only part of Scripps that was open again was south of Beeler Canyon and west of Sycamore Cyn Road. The only part of Scripps that this would apply to would be Stonebridge Estates. Good to know that everything is open now. I did hear that the 67 is now closed from Ramona down to Lakeside. Hopefully nothing from that fire heads West.
Hey, you found where I live! It's a little smokey, but otherwise ok. I drove down Pomerado, and everything seemed open. I didn't even get stopped and asked to show ID.
My mom did volunteer work at Quaalcom stadium. She said it was horrible traffic and very hot. She and some others were in charge of showing people where they could safely keep their pets. Meanwhile, in the stress and panic, someone found a couple cats in carriers inside different cars with the windows up. I assume the cats were ok. Ever since Katrina, shelters do their best to accomadate people's pets. Yay!!
My family is back home too. The wind tore some s#!t up around here. It looks like Sycamore Canyon and LPQ are in good shape. Anyone know what state Elfin forest is in?
I saw on the news last night that the Jojoba Hills RV Park in Aguanga (which is just east of Vail lake) was evacuated yesterday. I noticed it because my Godmother lives there. Haven't heard anything further.
In the 1993 fire in Laguna we thought we where safe, then the next day a strong ocean wind blew the fire back on itself and got the stuff it missed the first time down the canyon. Not over until it is over. Laguna lost 800+ houses in that one. :steppie:
Thanks Dirty D for the pictures, I just got back home and drove around, the Otay Reservour single track looks fine, I guess the fire got very close until the wind changed.:bang:
We came back this morning to Poway. I was trying to think of back ways into the area. Thought I would try the front door and everything was open. Didn't go to far N but looking up Pomerado things were really smokey past Twin Peaks. Good to know your home and that everything seems OK.
GREAT!!!....... The Fallbrook fire has closed the 76 at Mission road in Bonsall and Camp Penelton has burned into the rest area on the 5 due to back fires.
Not good with Witch Creek & Poomacha merging together now a total of over 200k acres burned together.North County is getting hit hard. Birch Hill near Palomar Mtn & Julian evacuted.
The fire in Fallbrook appears to have picked up a lot of power again and things are far from over. My house is in pretty real danger now. The fire has spread into SMaRT now and things are looking grim. Hopefully the winds won't pick up and we can get some aircraft in there. They are pulling a lot of Fallbrook's resources away to battle the Poomacha fire now though, so we'll see what happens.
Some good news here. It looks as if Elfin has been spared (for the moment). We'll have to wait and see what the Witch/Poomacha does with the Daley area. The winds have been switching quite abit, so... we'll have to wait and see. How are my South/East county brothers doing?
