San Juan Trail

Does anyone know the status of SJT? I went there about a couple of weeks ago, and it's still closed—like seriously closed. Thought about poaching until I saw the gnarly gate.

Does anyone know the status of SJT? I went there about a couple of weeks ago, and it's still closed—like seriously closed. Thought about poaching until I saw the gnarly gate.

Last I heard is that the closure order goes until May 23rd 2026, although it could open before that. Trabuco does not have a good track record of opening burn areas quickly. Contrast that with Wrightwood where everything is already open and I rode through completely burned areas last weekend with no problems.

According to the Trabuco Ranger District, San Juan trail is supposed to be open as of May 23rd, 2026. I called them up and they told me another year. Can't believe they need an entire additional year just to use the trail unless there was some serious erosion after the fire.

No official date given, but maybe after calling they will update the Cleveland National
Forest page on their website.
