RR: I came I rode I fell

Yep, finally happened. I fell off a cliff.

Rode up West Ridge. Met a new guy. Showed him Samurai trail. Trying to be a good neighbor, I slowed a bunch waiting on him to get safely thru some sections. This time, slow is not good. Lost my flow and crashed twice. Once on a descent, another, went over a berm and down a cliff. Cart wheeled a few times. No broken bones. My fall was caught by some bushy oaks. Abrasions and lacerations. Good thing nothing stabbed me. Also got the end of the bars straight to my throat. That hurt too.

Boss, de pain! De pain!

bing, not to be "one of those" people, but if it was a cliff you'd be DEAD!!

I, too went over the edge on Monroe Truck Trail. Pretty eerie when you're air borne thinking: Oh Phuqqqqq ...

Heal up, I've been off my bike for three weeks healing a pretty sever pedal bash to the calf.

"GET RAD" ....

I tumbled off Sam Merrill trail a few weeks back. Momentary lapse in focus, stalled out on an easy section with a slight uphill grade. I distinctly remember saying in my head "Well, this isn't gonna be good" as I proceeded to tumble down the steep exposed hill through rocks and brush, for what seemed like forever. Thankfully I didn't tumble far, but it was a strange feeling, somersaulting down the hill with absolutely no control, gaining speed, just hoping you'll stop. Once I finally stopped, sprawled out on my back with only a small bush keeping me from falling even more, I realized that I was pretty lucky. Climbing back up was major pain in the ass. Each step I took, I slid down a foot. My bike was jammed in some brush. Overall, I came away with a sprained ankle, so that's not too bad.

Unless, I'm dead, and this is the final twist in the terrible sequel to The Sixth Sense. I realize I'm still on the hill. Dead....as I'm typing. NOOOOOO. I have so many more burritos to eat...

i hate somersaulting ..especially when your calves cramp up...and you look to see your bike doing the same thing..

First off Bing, heal up fast. Glad to hear you were not hurt too bad. What's the saying, if there's no blood it wasn't a very good ride!!! I did the same thing on Monroe Truck Trail about 6-8 yrs./ago. Back tire deflected of a rock and pointed me off the single-track. Luckily I landed on a ledge about 10' down otherwise it would've been a 200-300ft. tumble. On a side note, check out the Miles Todd video on the Mt. Bike Bill's website. It happened some years ago but it's still amazing. - Lloyd ;)

Thank you again.

Strange thing, today is the 6th day since my crash. I just noticed, my cuts are all surrounded by some pretty dark bruising. It just happened today. I'm surprised it took so long to bruise. Hmmmm. Headed over to WebMD

Actually bruising is a later term event. You had contusions where the bruises are now forming. It is a normal thing, in Hollywood bruises happen right away, in real life they come later. Then they turn color as the blood cells are slowly swept away into the blood stream. Afterwards your spots will hurt with every bounce on the trail as they are really not quite healed. Soon they will look like uncooked chicken skin, a sign that the visible are almost over. That bar end could last a couple months
Oh how fun it is to ride in the big hills

I ride up in SM all the time but haven't taken the DH trails off of Westridge into the can such as Monkey Spanker and Samurai. I've ridden J-drop which has it's challenges... how does Spanker and Samurai compare? Start with Spanker or Samurai?

-50% sounds insane!

start with first crack. watch out for the ledge drop, the litte jump and the rock garden. samurai is much steeper, just a tad more technical.

I'm going to take a break from all this technical stuff. I fell again yesterday. No so bad. But that's 3 falls in the last 3 rides. I'm having a bad luck streak. Gonna do more XC rides.
