Mike the bike has officially passed. He was a great rider and a local legend. He was one of the group that hung out at the Bike Beat. He rode a Mantis in the mid 80’s then later a Klein and moved onto a Chumbawumba. Everyone who was local a rider in the 80’s and 90’s probably knows him. He was a major part of my life growing up and I hate to see him go. His funeral will be this Friday, pm me if you know him and would like to attend.
Whoa, sorry to hear this. Although I had lost touch with him in the mid 90's, I remember Mike's infectious enthusiasm as if just I saw him yesterday. He was definitely an infuential figure in the OC MTB scene. I always enjoyed when he visitied us at Mantis, and the countless times we crossed paths on the trail.
Mike Who? I should know him having hung out at the Bike Beat, rode the local trails in that area ie: Chino Hills, Fullerton Loop, Anaheim Hills, etc. Anyhow, sorry to hear we lost a local legend
Sorry to hear of his passing. I rode with him many times in the late 80's through the mid 90's but lost touch as well. We was a great guy and will be missed.
He was riding a klien with the hot pink to purple paint job. He usually wore a bandana under his helmate and a large fanny pack.
Sounds familiar, but still cant placed the face. Richard, Danny, Chad, Todd, Royce, Clay, Ron, John. Eddie, Jim, Jay...those are the names that were regualurs that I remember. Bummer about his passing though.
Sorry to hear of his passing. Does anyone have a picture of him maybe that would help us put a name with a face. I rode there back then and I to can't remember who he was. Again very sorry to hear of his passing.
Although a bit older than the core group of regular riders, Mike was the one with the most youthful exuberance.
Mike Voegtli (pronouced Vo-ga-lie) he shortened it to just Vogi, but to most he was just Mike The Bike. Mike was a close personal friend we rode on adventures not rides he would say. He was a regular in the Chino Hills Park, Fullerton Loop and The Bike Beat were he would come to harass us while we worked,Thanks Mike! This picture was taken near Mt. Pacifico in the San Gabriel range, it pretty much sums up the exuberant, good natured and fun loving Mike The Bike Vogi (The Vogmeister). I well miss my friend very much. Bill Braucksiek
Yes, I do remember Mike, seeing his picture. Man, that sucks, I remember Mike as a hardcore, friendly rider. RIP Mike, my thoughts go out...
I thought I would share this photo Mike took one evening at The Bike Beat (1992) I added the word bubbles, unfortunatly we never shoot Mat. Bill
It was good catching up with you today Bill... The story of Mike is pretty amazing, and the his resilience in character is inspiring. From what I gathered in his eulogy, he sustained the same positive attitude (that I remember so well) into his final day.
