Replacing Disc Brake Pads?

I think mine have about had it. I saw a video on-line and it looks easy enough. My fancy less than a year old bike stand needs to be put to use. What should I look for in pads? I think I recall a conversation about organic making less noise, but I could wrong. Anything else to look out for? I have Avid BB7s on my El Mariachi and Avid BB5s (I think) on the Vaya. The Vaya may need inspection, too, but the El Mar is my main concern.

organics are quieter than metallic, but you trade off by getting less braking power and much shorter pad life.

Grr. So, I took out one of the front brake pads to inspect and it looks fine. I just adjust turned the nobs to make them go in a bit. However, I am having a heck of a time getting the pad back in. On the video I watched on like it had a wire clip on the pad and you just slide in until it clips. The BB7s don't have that. I can "click" it back in, but it looks like the two little arms of the clip need to go on top of the pad. That is what it looks like on the other one.

It looks like the pad should slide under the two prongs and click in the back. However, I can't seem to get it under the prongs. Any tips?

You need to take both pads and the pad spacing spring out, realign them together and push them in as a unit.

I have BB7s and have had a LOT of noise reduction with Price-Point's alligator brand orangic pads. I use organics in the front to minimize noise and semi-metallics in the rear because my rear brakes seems to make much less noice to start with.

I remember when I installed them what threw me off was that you really need quite a bit of power to click them in all the way. I believe I used the back end of a screwdriver handle to push them back into the calipers until they made a strong "click". Hope that helps.
