Tyler races with my son. Very strong kid, just started racing last year and is my sons best rival (and great friend) they race CX and road together but on different teams. I am sure he will move up for next time. My son raced the SS race last night, his first MTB this year and 2nd ever. He is also a bit young at 14yo and loving it! Need to re-gear before next race 32x18 was a bit too low for this OTH.

How did nobody mention the fact that former Junior World MTB champion and probably the most talented bike racer of his generation Peter Sagan raced last night.

    Who's that?

I think for most people this event is about their own race or experience, not that of others. That's one of the things that seems so good about this event.

Yes, there were 2 Cannondale/Liquigas road pros in the race last night.

Word is they both had a great time.

So that's who it was! That is awesome.

A bunch of us were going up the last climb on the east side of the course, when a fluorescent green blur went by us. The guy had a Liquigas kit on so I was wondering who it was. He passed us like we were tied to a tree!

Is anybody else coughing their lungs out because of the dust? I woke up this morning with my throat rather raspy. I guess that's what I get for being the last of the pack.

I am!.. happened last week as well. Not quite sure how to deal with it other than just busting a gut every few minutes until it is all gone. Just wait until it gets hotter and dryer as the season progresses. Definately motivation to keep in front.

I actually ran into these guys and their guy from Cannondale at a Pete's coffee in Belmont Shore. They asked me if I raced last night due to the giant "B1" still marked on my calf. Super cool guy from Cannondale, he said the racers were from Slovakia and had an absolute blast.

OPTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK (top of the hill):

    1) Bring a cowbell... Bring the insults (direct them at Jojon, Rodger, David Brown, Dacaboose etc.)

    2) Bring a cowbell... Insult a few friends / cheer on the rest... Bring a radio!

    3) Bring a cowbell... Leave the insults at home... High five people as they ride by... Bring a radio!

If a radio sounds like a good idea, I should be able to borrow one...
If I am unable to get hold of one- anyone willing to bring one from home?

(Eye of the Tiger... Rocky Theme Song... I Will Survive...)

    Good idea? Bad idea? :?:

Dino- if I don't get my dose of insults from you, I may slow-down from my already painfully slow pace!! I know you don't want that.

2nd race in the books and still having a blast! Thomas- thanks for the photos and support Brotha!

Dino - is that you with the cowbell there last night? If so, did not recognize you. I did stoop down to slap the cowbell on my last pass.

I was sad to miss OTH #2 because it means I miss out on hanging with friends and acquaintances. But, I also thought it was really freaking cool that Peter Sagan came out to race ;)

Dude, Lee, come on... that's like going to a BMX track in the 80s and having Mike Miranda line up!! It's slightly more usual to see big names I guess in So Cal (see Chris Horner and Brian Lopes racing local Cross races, in addition to Tinker Juarez and Sid Taberlay racing the local scene), but still exciting when it happens. I can't imagine the speed Sagan must've had on the course.

Also - "sad" to see so many heckling Dino for not racing :) It's cool enough that he's out there supporting!!! Racing isn't for everyone. I respect his choice to ring cowbell for the racers.

Don't blame the racers blame the organizers for having ALL classes on the course at once, that's a recipe for disaster and you realize they are not racing against each other, right? So the beginners and that kid you rooted for, what if they catch the bike racing bug and 4 years from now are tearing it up, can they no longer have "spirit" or "Sportsmanship" when they are faster?
