As others have said, great ride with awesome folks. This was my first century and I couldn't have asked for better weather.

Dickie, sorry about the solo trip. We couldn't find where you turned off, and after a half hour and sending someone back for you with no luck we decided to press on. Next time we need to make sure everyone has everyone elses number. Good job on making it to SD on your own though.

As for the train ride back I'll just paraphrase Jay by saying "motorboat, motorboat, motorboat, motorboat..." lol

Great report...I do this ride frequently, but usually turn around at Oceanside/Carlsbad to get back to Irvine.

It'd be nice for Amtrak to sell "bike" reservations on this route. I end up emailing them about once a month on this line for them to sell advance tickets with a bike reservation for an extra $5 or so, given the # of people that would probably do this.

Next time, no road bikes. Throw the slicks on the Mountain Bikes and then roll with the Lycra. Harder to rock the paceline but then nobody on this ride has any use for more gearing than our MTB's anyway.

Maybe we should start a 200+ pound club so we don't stick out like a sore thumb.

Looks like a fun ride, thanks for the RR errbody! I'll definitely have to try this one when I'm feeling strong enough for a century... knowing they have beer on the train is good incentive  but 51 miles is my longest roadie ride yet, & twice that distance still sounds painful to me.
