hey Jason, I recommend The Path in tustin for gear. Its not far from us. When started I couldnt afford to buy a new helmet since I had just bought a bike. I did end up using my bmx helmet for a while, which was better than nothing. Got to say, tried on a couple and I ended up liking how the fox flux felt. It really paid off when I rode and the huge vent holes made a huge difference (compared to my bmx lid) in keeping my head a hell of a lot cooler. Good luck!

Cool I was planning on going to The Path to try on helmets, but I wasn't sure if there was another LBS closer that was equal to The Path

When I started, my lbs was walmart or target. I got my bike and helmet there, also water bottle, cage pump, tube, etc.
helmet sold here has to meet certain standard, so should be good for starting.
now the only thing I still keep from walmart is just floor pump and bottle cage.

other lbs near you is Fullerton Bike, just stop by there. There's also JAX.
I like fox flux helmet as well.

    have fun shopping.

Fantastic Jason. I wonder how soon that one bike will become 3 or 4. Hahaha

Do not go to Orange Cycle....there are much better shops in OC that will have better selection and service.

Check out the Path, Fullerton Bikes, Rock N Road, Jax.

I'll likely ride this one until the wheels fall off then possibly upgrade to a full suspension type of bike.

You say that now... and it may be what happens. ;) Then when you have your FS bike, you'll be like... my HT 29er was way better at this trail. That's how one bike becomes two.

Depending on what FS bike you get it'll either be, I want something lighter, something with more travel, agile, something I'm not afraid to beat up... etc etc... That's how two bikes becomes three... four...

This is a common phenomenon among cyclists in general.

Anyhow, have fun and be safe out there.

After my first visit there I don't intend to go back. that being said I think I'll stop by the Path today after work and try on helmets.

So I stopped into the bike path tonight and was greeted by about 10 people asking if I needed help. I tried on several helmets and the one that fit the best was the bell Super with the GoPro mount. If they had a fox Flux small that might have been my choice, but the S/M was slightly to big.

I rode my bike to work today and man did it feel good. It's 9.5 miles each way. I also picked up a couple goodies too.

Bell Super helmet and “3800“ Lumen Cree LED had lamp. While our might not be 3800 lumens this sucker is bright. Next on the list is a pump View attachment 160637

Nice looking lid and having a good light opens up a lot of riding opportunities, especially until the sun starts sticking around a little later in the evenings. Have fun on the new ride.

Very nice helmet. I highly recommend picking up another light for your helmet.

The helmet had a GoPro mount that attaches to the top.
