New "Do Not Enter" Sign on Ladera Ridge, aka Lower Chiquita Ridge

Did a quick morning ride with a couple of my buddies this morning and came across a brand new "Do Not Enter, Violators Will Be Prosecuted" at the trailhead off Oso Parkway. I always thought it was a legal trail and ride it all the time. We went up Firehose, so not sure if similar signs were posted at the other entrances off Antonio. Any thoughts on what is happening there?

Sounds illegal...I suggest you keep riding it though dont let the man hold you down!

Is this the Chiquita ridge behind the existing sports park (LA Canada sport complex?) that we used to be able to ride until they shut it down several years back?

If you take the line wide at the bottom (left of the center rut), then you'll run right into the sign.

Yeah, it is a metal sign. I didn't have my phone, so unfortunately no pic yet. I called LARMAC (Ladera Ranch Maintenance Corp.) and they confirmed that the trail is part of their trail network and did not place the sign there. Sure looked like an official sign, but I am not sure what other agency I can contact. Ideas?

Did it say do no not enter or no trespassing? Normally signs of that nature would say no trespassing or private property violators will be prosecuted. Also most city county or state signs seem to have a statute code .

No state codes or anything just a plain 'ol "No Trespassing" sign on the Oso entrance. Fire station is still unmarked, no clue on Antonio. I'd leave this post to that, but I'm almost obligated to write a little trail obituary of some sort...

Five years ago a bunch of str members rode this route on Sunday's, many years after that it has become a little morning/afternoon loop for me. What a rad trail and it was always a joy looking out to towards Ortega and knowing there's still open space in OC while flowing down the ridge. Today's ride was as rad as ever and hopefully its not going to get gated up like Chiquita ridge did so it could still be a little poach. RIP

Lubo, I saw the sign too. It looks phony. I rode from the power station to Oso and saw no other signs stating the same.

We checked it out this morning. Now there is a barbed wire fence across the trail. There is also a no trespassing sign from OCparks. We called the number on the sign and the OCPark person that answered knew nothing about the closure. She promised to get back to us with an answer. This really sucks!

If the whole ridge gets blocked off eventually, then there goes one of the nicest single track sections in Ladera.

Our government seems to just have the power to do whatever they feel like. You buy a house in that neighbor thinking you have access to hiking in your neighborhood, but no they arbitrarily just close trails off. What harm is done in having a trail? They get these subdivisions pushed through board of supervisions by offering the county open space but what good is that open space to people if they can not go out there and enjoy it. Guess we are suppose to be happy that the wildlife is undisturbed by pesky humans.

This trail is a 3 day a week staple for me and is one of the few things holding my sanity in check. distepper is right, the county seems to just arbitrarily close trails for no reason. I really hope this is not real.

It is most likely real. The new county line is no signage means no access. It is our responsibility to get official maps and be sure we are on bike legal trails.

Very strange, since the trail near the top of Firehose was just bulldozed to widen it a few months ago.

And that sign says OC Parks - is Ladera Ridge their land? Being halfway between the arroyo area of Oniell and Riley, it sure doesn't look that way either the OC Parks site or on Google Maps.
