I agree with everything in your post except that line.
We need to be EXACTLY as responsible as hikers and equestrians - no more, and no less. All I want is equal taxation, equal representation, and equal enforcement.

That is correct except the part about trespassing the rules do not change. However they are still taking a risk in showing these pics ,if they wanted to do anything they should have taken this to law enforcement, not publics posting them.

Assuming they didn't already do that.

I'm guessing these folks don't even fart without consulting their attorneys.

So is this trail closed to everyone or just bikers?

If everyone, can you tell me the exact location. I'd like to go and hangout there, in a legal area, and take some pictures of others who use it and post their ugly mugs violating the rules.

    Fight fire with fire.

I would merely like to point out that this is an open forum, with many different opinions from various people. NONE of which solely represent the entire community. Obviously, there are several different opinions on this matter. And, no one has directly contacted you regarding this, you are engaging on our conversation.

When one of the groups or clubs responds to you, they take it upon themselves to represent the best of their group and filter out discussions such as those we are currently having. Thus, your comparison and consternation at our replies versus the politically correct ones from your inbox are incredibly unfair and unjust.

Frankly, it only demonstrates your inability to connect to the community and overstates the connection between poachers and the rest of us mountain bikers by condemning the entire community for both the acts of poaching and (lack of) responding.

An individual who commits an act of poaching, or a group of individuals who do that, are just that, individuals.

Lastly, the statements you are reading here are opinions of people who merely disagree with the rules, but do not necessarily break them. Again, this is a public opinion where we have a right to state our thoughts and ideas. Using such statements as an example of the willingness to poach of the mountaing biking community as a whole is asinine. Disagreeing with the rules is perfectly legal.

    Very well put, Rachel.

The fact that JamR has been a member here since Feb.'05, has received 2100+ 'thanks', yet left only 21 for others says much about how well he "connects" with people on this site. Not a personal attack; just an observation and facts.

come to think of it, you never see mark and adam in the same place at the same time--and they both hammer the ss. they might just be the same person.

i really don't think we want to go analyzing people's given/earned ratio--especially with the price of glass houses these days.

Here are the official public land management documents IRC is contracted to obide by....read them, get educated, then make your INFORMED comments :)
    www.naturereserveoc.org

    http://www.naturereserveoc.org/NCCP Parts I & II - Plan.pdf
Please read the recreation policies for the area starting on page II-343The introduction of mountain biking into the Irvine Open Space Preserve was on a trial basis and the agreement with the City was if there were problems with the sport the access level would be returned to docent led only. This is consistent with the policies in the NCCP document and the outline adaptive management strategy. If you read the document, this type of action can also apply to Crystal Cove, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Aliso and Woods Canyon, Whitings Ranch and more. At this time the City of Irvine chooses to enforce the existing policies to stay in compliance with the NCCP regulations, which they are obligated to do

The City also created a Recreation and Resource Management Plan as required by the NCCP. The full document is available at http://www.cityofirvine.org/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=6684

and there is more information about access policies on page 65

Enjoy the read, you might get a differant perspective, maybe, or maybe not.

Where can one view (or even better, purchase) a physical and authentic copy of the above documents?
Are they available directly from the County of Orange?

Are there any more pics? I want to see mine!

Really though, it would be great if the Irvine co. could provide an entrance into this park so you don't have to ride onto the street with 65mph traffic on the 133.

I agree....Preserving what? ....... It is more like a "not in my backyard" thing... and that backyard was what....

The only thing really threatened in SoCal is common sense.... how do we protect that?

you can access irvine south (when it's open) from the nix center on the 133. take the stagecoach north fireroad to serrano ridge. both trails are in laguna coast, so they're open every day till dusk.

actually, coastal sage scrub is a very small and threatened habitat (it's not the same as chapparal). most of it has been grazed/farmed/developed. it's a unique ecosystem and there's not much of it left...
