Ride Report Maxwell's Labor Day Ride 9/7/09 - Blackstar/Skinsuit/Skyline

waaay fun.

Healing vibes to sue! she is a tough cookie. Hope her arm is not broken!
Way cool of you to driver her around the mountain. 2 of us, Dennis? and I just rolled up to the cars right as you pulled up at high noon.

Sorry, I had to bail a the end of SS. I knew what was ahead and my legs needed me to keep moving...or else I'd still be on Skyline.....asleep.

Good riding with everyone. I like to keep my suffering to myself, so I don't do too many group rides.

+1 on the driver bit

Did you guys ever stop? Pete and I rolled into the canyon seeking shade but never found anyone or any shade... Just kept pedaling. Hung out at Beeks for an hour and then we headed down. The big group finished at about 2.

That was a good ride. First time I've actually been tired at the end of a ride in a while.

I'm worked, but had a blast!

I'm really hoping Sue's arm is not as bad as everyone thought. She sure is a tough cookie! I never even heard her complain about the pain.

I've got a belly full of good food from Tustin Brewery afterwords, and an iced pumpkin late from Peets, and now it's nappy time!
I'll put a few pics up later.

Good times all! :clap::clap::clap::clap:

It was a fun ride (what I did of it, anyway). Man, you OC peeps are tough! I got to the golf ball and wanted to die. I ended up turning back there due to some serious cramping, which turn out to be the course of wisdom as when I got home the stomach cramps kicked in...

I definitely want to try this again; maybe when it's cooler. The heat almost killed me.

I just want to thank Maxwell for setting this up, the guy who gave me a tube at the bottom, and the nice women who sheparded me down Blackstar.

Someday, oh someday I WILL survive a Maxwell ride without being physically and mentally crippled! (^_^)d

Well folks, Sue and I had a blast today. It's been 20 years since I've ridden in the Santa Ana's and we both thoroughly enjoyed the climb up Blackstar. The run down Skinsuit was cool too and we were really looking forward to the climb back up Skyline, but...

It turns out that Sue is a bit of a rebel... and if I say wallk, she rides. Typically, she pulls it off....

Turns out that Sue broke her right wrist, but fortunately (according to the ER doc), shouldn't need surgery or to be "set." Fortunately we are insured well and even have AFLAC accident insurance... So all is good on that front.

A special shout out:bang: to the following people:
Maxwell for organizing the ride and walking back to meet us and help portage Sue's rig.
Dusty (Nan) for being on point to wrap her arm.
Permagrin (Natalie) for walking down with us and keeping Sue company.
Chewyeti (Aaron) for the lift back to Blackstar.

We enjoyed everyones company, and will be back for more... Just may take a little time for Sue to heal.

See ya'
Eddie

Damn Eddie. I hope this is the extent of it and Sue doesn't need surgery. Glad it all worked out OK. Oh, you missed nothing going up Skyline. It was about 700 degrees. Wish I could have helped more. Next time more of a scenic ride.

The second time in a month when I rode beyond my limits and rocked it. A special thanks to Nathalie whose bravery spills over to me all the time. To highlight: there was one part among many where I decided to "walk" down. It was so steep my feet were slipping so I got into a skiing position and rode it down with my hands on the the brakes to keep the momentum from my bike catapulting me into the cliffs of insanity. When I stopped sliding I was laughing so hard I could not get up.

Thanks Maxwell, this was a blast, perfectly hot with lots of adventure.

Props to Chewy who provided a cooler full of water and drove all the way around the mountain for Sue. You Rock!!!!

Good representation from a few San Gab refugees. Riding up skyline I could see the fire take another ridge. Good to see you making the drive for a ride.

Thanks Maxwell for posting this ride. I had a great time even though the heat on Skyline kicked my butt. It was nice to meet new folks in the OC.

Even my wife had a great time on her road bike. She got in 40+ miles.

And Sue, I hope you make a quick recovery.

The heat up skyling started bad and just got worse.

I got delirious and imagined these images....

Enjoy!

Absolutely a killer time. I enjoyed my solo climb up skyline... but got a MAD racoon tan from my sunglasses and head band. I had the helmet off for the climb and got roasted.

Skinsuit was rad. All these years living a few miles from skyline and never thought to try it out. I had fun and the Nomad was dialed! stuck like glue.

I took some pics.

Eddy - i have your SIDI's. Found them when i got home.
Sue, you are a WAAAAY tough cookie. PROPS!

Like i told ya, no worries on the ride. I've been driven somewhere after i fell, least i could do is help someone else out.

NEXT TIME i will bring BEER in the COOLER  - that seemed to be a popular request LOL.

Pics!

Awww Gabe. Thanks for those. It perked Sue up and made her laugh... Sue was born just south of Canada. She's almost as tough.
She is a bit disappointed that you didn't imagine the Pope with some model...

Chewy... sounds like we'll have to plan a ride together soon. Maybe a post work eveing ride up Skyline... Somebody owes you some beer.

Here ya go Eddie.

Oh yea. Thanks to Aaron for the water and for helping Sue. Very cool!
