Does anyone know if there are any trails open at Mammoth? I know that the Nationals were moved due to snow, but I was wondering if there is any riding there now. Thanks Rachel
hey Chelle...the bike park is open...check out the site... http://www.mammothmountain.com/bike_ride/bike_park/
Thanks, looks like only a few of the trails though Trail Report - Last Updated: Jun 26, 2006 3:13 PM Bike Park trails now open: Uptown (more opening soon) Downtown Shotgun Big Ring Lower Paper Route (more opening soon) Lower Bullet (more opening soon) Timber Ridge Juniper (more opening soon) Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is now open 9am to 6pm daily. Bike Park Shuttle runs from the Village to the Adventure Center from 9am to 5:30pm. There is no gondola access for mountain bikers at this time. THIS WEEK, get a combo Ski and Bike ticket for $76 a day! Hiking trails on Mammoth Mountain remain closed until further notice. Top of the Sierra Tours start July 6.
All the good trails and technical trails are near the bottom below mid chalet anyways. When I ride the mountain I rarely take the gondola to the top. There is one fun black diamond trail called 'Skid Marks' that starts at the top, but I dont even think that trail opened at all last summer. There was a freakin glacier over it!! My fav trail is 'Shotgun' which probably has no snow since its near the bottom of the mammoth Id like to go up there the end of July or beginning of Aug. Most of lower trails will be open by then for sure.
I did Skid Marks last year, but I was there in August/September. My fave was 7 bridges (cause I have a thing for bridges). Thanks for the info Me
mister skipper, please let me know if/when you plan on going. i was talkin about getting some people together for a mammoth ride with some friends earlier today.
A group of us will be going Aug 24th - 28th time frame. Live 2 Ride (Jon) reserved a condo and would like to see this grow, and of course the more the merrier. This should be a great time so try and work out the dates.
Is anyone planning on continuing on to Tahoe? I do a Mammoth/Tahoe run every summer and have not made plans yet. This year, no matter how hot it is, I am not going by Lower Rock Creek without riding it.
CC, I cant make those otherwise Id be totally game to ride with you guys. Ima gona need to plan a trip earlier in the summer. Maybe the first weekend in August. werd, on ROCK CREEK Steppy!
Skipp-en it! Bummer...I think you mentioned that before. ](*,) Do you have a ride/race that weekend? :?:
It is a trail between Mammoth and Bishop at Tom's Place. Most people enjoy it more than Mammoth. Every time I go by it is way too hot so I pass on it. Most people shuttle it but can be done by climbing back up Lower Rock Creek Road. It consists of three sections the first two rideable for most people the last is suppose to be very tech. Rock Creek Video...http://www.chainringtattoo.com/pages/videos.html Picture is of Upper Rock Creek last August.
Dean, That sounds like a great idea. To follow up with a Tahoe trip after the Mammoth one. Let me see if I can put something together.
I would be going to Tahoe to ride Hole in the Ground and sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail (Tahoe Meadows, Red House Flume and The Flume) maybe Spooner Lake to Kingsberry Grade. If I felt adventurous I would try Mr. Toads. Tons of stuff to ride in Tahoe, so Nortstar being closed does not discourage me.
You're in the desert but the creek provides enough water to keep trees around the trail. There are some nuisance rocks but nothing more technical. You're in a deep canyone so there's no scenery and no wind (hot). I prefer anything trail else at Mammoth where the terrain is unique, the air cooler, and a touch more speed is possible. Did you like the pace in the video (some link in this thread)? I've ridden it in both directions. I think I'd rather climb it than descend. If you've been starved for singletrack it probably looks good but there's much better riding elsewhere.
Little Rock Creek is probably the best singletrack ride outside the Bike park. It is the only ride I've been on where there are cacti and Aspen trees next to each other. Dean/Mike: When are you guys planning on Tahoe? I usually go the second week of Sept. after school starts (less crowded). I may start it early if there is going to be a big Mammoth thing.
After school sounds better to me. I like to stay at Zepher Cove in Tahoe and it is alot easier to rent a cabin/campsites after school starts. I have been staying at Zepher Cove since 1958 it has alots of good memories for me. But I will go anytime and stay anywhere just to be in Tahoe.
