light failure!!

Tonight on the luge my light failed and several riders when I said my light isn't working shot past me and said " Have Fun" only 1 guy stopped to help me and lit the trail up for me so i could ride down... thanks PHOD'UP.. FOR THE COURTEOUS AND MUCH NEEDED HELP FOR A FELLOW RIDER. :wave:bang::clap:

The full moon must have been helpfull.

I plugged mine this morning as a test, it lid up for 3 seconds and burned. Carl, you almost had 2 guys to escort down...
I went down the luge a couple years ago with a defective light. It was a full moon, I tried following someone, but it was difficult, I let my buddies take some distance and I rode with only the moonlight, I couldn't go fast but it was enough. Where the trees are casting a shadow from the moon, it was pitch black.

Good job Pho'dUp . Nice that you took the time to help a buddy back down the hill.
As for the others that said "have fun" and wizzed past you, that is a pretty low thing to do.
They are probably the same type of people that flat out on group rides and never carry a spare tube
depending on the generosity of others.

Yep, also carry a mini mag light with the three LED conversion kit. That and a little
Duct tape will usually get you back down the mountain. Don't forget a couple
extra batteries though.

I practice limping out without lights. It is a skill you need to work on before you need it. I will do it sometimes when I bring the Mtn Dawgs since they are a big anchor anyways. I always carry a backup pen light, but have never used it. Last month I was riding down without lights & I had a couple dudes catch me. They let me ride in front of them, I picked up the pace and started to get some air. The lead dude got pissed off at me and stopped. I limped out the rest of the way down, they never caught me again. Get some good crash proof lights. Happy trails

Last month I escorted a dude out with his dog, He was crying for help, he said he was ok, I left him and rode out. Then I rode back up and escorted him out anyway.

That's messed up, but if you ride solo without a backup light you kinda deserve the consequences of your actions IMHO. It was a full moon, and you are in a very populated area so it's not like you are going to die. I woulda given you my spare light and then waited for you at the bottom or told you to mail it back to me. Is that a dick move?

I have done many full moon no ride lights but I would have to have the moon directly overhead to ride down the Luge without a light. I ride with lights on the bars and hemet but I also carry a 1 lumen flashlight about the size of my baby finger and yes I have used it. Couple of times I have misjudged how long a ride was like the late afternoon I when for a short ride on Freeman Creek and ended back in Quaking Aspen at 10pm.

Unfortunately I was going down the luge at 6:30 and the full moon wasnt out at that time it would have helped. When your light goes out its really dark . I couldn't see a thing pho'dup helped me out.

It was pretty dark in that canyon for sure. I'm blessed with terrible night vision even in a full moon. I shoulda just gave Ride one of mine. Nice part about magicshines is there's no mount just that rubberband. Woops.

I know what you mean , aat first i tried riding behind him and on the parts he pulled away i was left in total darkness , having him behind me is the way to do it. I will buy a headlamp to wear just in case this happens again...thanks for all the replies!!

That would have been fine. i was riding down by myself due to a hurt shoulder and needed to take it slow so i let my friends continue on to old camp, never had a light problem before but then again i should have charged it before the ride. that was my dumb move not charging = light failure

I loaned my helmet light to a a guy before who got to the top and had a burnout on his only light. I am sure most of the guys who passed you were running more than one light. Not very cool of them at all. One of the reason I really got into Mountain biking verus road was the culture that even during races people would stop and help others on the trail if they could.
Sad...

BTW, we went down last night around 9:30 and even with the moon up the lower part of the luge would be crazy without a light. Rode up the grade and part of the STT without any light though.
