L.A. to study ways to protect bicyclists, considers 'bill of rights'

    Seriously, shouldn't it be the other way around? I thought bicyclists already HAD the Right to 'take a lane' if they needed to (for safety, etc). Not necessarily the "Might," but the "Right."

    What I'd like to see is better Driver's education about Bicyclists' Right to be on the road, and enforcement to reinforce the concept.

    Just yesterday, I was driving my truck on Newport Avenue and telling my girlfriend about how much I used to love riding in Newport, Costa Mesa, etc., when some loser in a Range Rover almost took out a female roadie.

    "Cyclists have been demanding more attention from government around the country, saying they have the right to share the road with cars."

    That statement bugs me. We are saying we have the right? No, we DO have the right, but we want better enforcement. And yes, enforcement goes both ways (for cars and for riders).
