Just registered. Hope I can make it though because of work..... Will need to prepack everything, pre-dress, etc. Nothing like wearing lycra under a suite and tie all day and then stripping it off in a phone booth ... oops meant car.... before the race.

There's 21 categories according to his site... so if only 40 people total, that could potentially mean only 2 people per class, hehe.

    It's "40 riders per class" : http://www.cycleeventscompany.com/calendar/default.html

I'm in tonight SS though. We'll see how the gearing is. Trying 32/18 on a 29er.

SOOOO BUMMED I didn't make it. I had my bike and all my bike stuff in my car and despite a really tough day at work I was bound and determined to still go. However, when I hadn't even reached the 57 (on the 60) at ~5:40pm I gave up and turned around and went home. =(

I wanna hear all about it! Hopefully there's some pics and everything went well!

Good turn out for a first race. Was well ran and pretty organized. Course was a bit of a bottle neck on the first lap but i think that bound to happen with as much single track as there was. Well actually it was all single track except for the asphalt at the end/beginning of each lap. The only thing that i would say might help would be to do 2 minute intervault starts. But still a good time and everyone out that was pretty cool. The trophies were sick looking. Good job omar!

Knobby time race. What's it like?

    Hey guys,

After doing a few OTH's this summer, I thought it would be a cool change of pace to try out the Knobby Time race in San Dimas.

Can anyone tell me what it's like? How does it compare to OTH? More competitive, less competitive? More $5000 race machines in the beginner class? Less?

How are the crowds? The OTH crowd is way awesome and I doubt anyone can beat that. Will the STR tent be there? Will Dino be there with a cowbell?

I'm interested in hearing people who've raced it and hopefully I'll see a bunch of you out there for the next race.

Check out the race report at:

    http://www.socaltrailriders.org/for...obby-time-series-bonelli-park.html#post848320

Its alot more low key than OTH. Definitely less crowds but then again there has only been one so far. The course is way less crowded than OTH! Less of a family social affair and more hard core MTB racing. The course at Bonelli is also fantastic! Its probably the closest you'll come to a world cup level race course, thanks in big part to the folks at US Cup and at CycleEventsCo that have put a large nbr of hours making it. Also way way more singletrack, some of it euro style tight and rocky.

I personally think this series has a very good chance of being one of the premier Socal race series around!

I photographed a few friends racing the course yesterday. It's a pretty cool race and it's really easy to get around and check out different spots on the course. I'm not a racer but I really wanted to try it out. Check out this link.

One thing to remember is that Knobby Time started last night, and OTH has been going on since 2009, so you can't really compare the crowds until Knobby Time picks up steam and has a solid foundation. As Vlad mentioned, the course was mostly singletrack, and I thought it was pretty dang tough. My understanding of OTH is that it's fairly tame (but very fast) fireroad. Definitely some fast competition out there. Not sure about $5000 race bikes in beginner class, but hey if they can afford it, props to them! OTH also seems to be in a central location for a large group of riders (OC) while Bonelli is central for some but a bit of a haul for others.

I would like to see some food vendors out there providing grub, and possibly a discount on parking at Bonelli. If you have time it might be best to find a place to park outside and ride into the park for free. Otherwise I thought it was an awesome, grass roots style mountain bike race.
