Got the awesome chance to ride all trails at Keyesville this weekend and wanted to let everyone know what is going on up there before the race. If you have ridden there before this may be too general. This is my first race up there so those more experienced feel free to add!
DH- pretty sure all access to drop-in will be hike-a-bike, no shuttle provided and anticipated 20min hike to top of Dutch flat drop-in.
Snake Pit- Dust is down and track is fast. Be prepared to pedal. Only real tech section is a tight squeeze in between rock face and boulders, navigate this fast to bombing fireroad runs.
Dutch Flat- appearently the 'Dutch Flat' race course isnt on the Dutch Flat proper trail. So this is the only course I havent seen. Looks to be short but more tech than snake pit. Earn your turns??
Short Track- Tight & fast! Just the way you want them. Has some off-cambered berms and rocky turns. BEST PART: some of the course has a pump track feel to it. Those in shape, able to pump and pedal, will rail.
XC- Rode the entire course: awesome and beautiful. I assume the start will happen at the base of the valley, where the camp sites and short track are. From there you do a few steep downhills and uphills until you climb out of the valley on a fireroad and proceed right toward Kern Canyon Trail. After following some awesome contour-line singletrack that pitches up and down very steep-ly you will descend toward the highway with high-speed flow. Get off your brakes and pin it. Climb out of the valley via fireroads then hard left turn to climb back into the park. From the top you will be looking down on the start with an AWESOME and FLOWY descent into camp. This is one 8 mile lap.
Gotta give up praise to Ryan, the/'one of the' race coordinators for this weekend. Met him and the Bionicon crew this weekend at Kern River Brew and on the trail. They have really put together a good course and now are praying for good weather to hold. See everyone out there.
