i know i know - just messing around. I looked at the times and these guys are finishing the 50 mile race with 7k climbing averaging 10miles/hour. Now to me thats just crazy. Thats middle ring speed.

It is not the distance as much as it is the climbing and climbing and climbing....

I did the 50 miler this year and had an awesome time. It was my first ever endurance mtb ride, so at first I was a bit uncertain about how these events work. It was really well organized, and the course was well marked with plenty of aid stations. There are some tough climbs, but the beautiful scenery makes it go by pretty quick. If you weren't able to get into the VQ or CC, definitely a great ride to do. Not to mention, great opportunity to grab some apple pie at Mom's bakery in town.

If anyone is interested in pre riding the course the next few weekends, Sam from Julian would be happy to take you out. Tentative schedule is to meet at 9:00 in Julian both Saturdays and Sundays. E-mail him to confirm meetup location and details.

Possible reroute??

If the weather gods are not kind to us on Saturday we have put together a possible reroute. Around 60 miles with around 10,000 feet of climbing for the long course and around 40 + miles with around 7500 feet of climbing for the short course. The short course will be treated to Oriflame too!
The reroute skips Eagle Peak, Cedar Creek, Engineers and the Cuyamaca section plus Mason Valley. Also it does not go into the Santa Ysabel Open Space preserve. We still feature the 3 Canyon Area and go further down to the desert where we take in Pinyon Mountain and Blair Valley.
This reroute gets us out of the higher elevations and into warmer environs.
Let's hope we can do the regular course but if not I am sure you will all enjoy the reroute!jdmreroutecrop.jpg

When will you make the call on the reroute?

Approximate mileage between rest stops?

Thanks.

We pretty much have. We are pretty excited about the reroute. The problem is that we need to make plans and mark the course so unless the weather report changes significantly by tomorrow we are on to the reroute. Mileage between rest stops will be 20 miles max. We will also put a rest stop at the base of Oriflame and Rodriguez for the way back and for the second loop. Tires with some volume are suggested.

In hopes of finding better weather, fewer race conflicts and to get us back on the "real course" we have scheduled our next JDM for Saturday October 20th, 2012.
