I am trying to help a friend put a Reba frok on a GT i-drive team and it has an integrated headset and the Reba is apparently not designed for this:?:.

How do we get the fork to work with this setup??

THANKS!!!

exactly is the issue:?:

I don't see any problem. I doubt the fork cares if the headset is integrated or not as long as the race that you put on the fork matches up to the headset. Are there clearance issues???

You probably need to be more specific concerning the issue.

The first problem is that neither of really knows what we are doing... That being said, yes there are clearance issues. The bottom of the headset, the integrated portion, is sitting on the fork and not allowing the fork to move...

To clarify: I ride bikes and really do not work on them so help me with some terms:

Race? is what?
base plate?

Did you remove the crown race from his old fork and install it on the Reba?

Something sounds very wrong here.

Ok

I have installed forks with intergrated HS's and the Reba should fit fine.

First make sure the Race/ Base plate / etc... is installed correctly. The machined smooth size should be facing the bearings / head tube.

Next look at the bearings. There should be two sets. Are they the same size? If not "I think" the larger ones (thicker) will go on the bottom closest to the fork.

Make sure the bearings are installed facing the correct direction:)

Sounds like new fork install on an old existing frame/headset correct? If this is the case, you will have to either remove the (crown) race or base plate (two names for the same thing) from the old fork or buy a new one. The race is specific to the brand/model headset you have btw. It's that steel piece that was press fit onto the fork crown (where the steer tube meets the rest of the fork).

If you did not install the race onto the new fork first then the fork will not rotate as the lower bearings will not be in contact with the fork and the fork will bind to the head tube on the frame when you tighten the top cap bolt.

Since you commented that you don't know what you're doing, are you sure you don't have an internal headset on an integrated headset frame, or have an integrated headset on an internal headset frame?

I think it is an integrated headset on an internal headset frame...

But I don't know... I guess I am just going to tell him to take it to a LBS.

Hey Schleppp

I'm here in Riverside. If your buddy or you wants I can take a look at it and give him some help. I did the same change on my '05 1.0 I-Drive. It really isn't that hard.

PM me or post up.

Greg

Thanks to all of you... But I am going to let him deal with it!! I will just go with him when he drops it off. Maybe I will learn something!!

Thanks again!!
