I, err Wii need your help (NBR)

Okay, I know NOTHING about vid games. Never played them as a kid. :?:

Spent my early youth mostly outside ballin', riding bikes, beating up the tough kids in the neighborhoods:bang:, getting beat up by the tougher kids. #-o(note to self there are far more tougher kids than i imagined)

As I got older spent my adolescence drinking beers in the woods:beer:, chasing girlies around town:steppie:, beating up on fools in dive bars:bang:, getting beat up by the girlies big brothers I was chasing8-[…anyway you get the point (note to self somehow all good looking girls have BIGGER brothers :( )


So here’s the dilemma…I am void of any intelligence on gaming (as well as many other topics) but leaning towards getting the wifey a wii for x-mas and no idea what to look for

Is there a standard console and white thingy you throw around looking like a ‘tard? What games come with it, what extras do I need/want to buy. How hard is it to “plug into tv.


Trust me I know nothing other than if I get one I’m also gonna get a snowboarding game for ME as well.

Any insight / guidance appreciated


Btw – not sure why but I think she is stuck on a wii so any 411 towards other gaming consoles while perhaps of interest are not gonna be too much value in this situation

I too spent my chilhood much the same way you spent yours. It was fun, learned alot. Anyways, we bought a Wii about 6 months ago and the thing is a blast. We have had some friends over and it is fun. The Wii sports is cool. Anyone can play it. Guitar Hero of course will have you feelin' like a rockstar almost immediately. It is worth it. Not to mention all kinds of drinking games can be made as well. If you get the main unit and the sports pack that will give you 2 controllers and a disc with several games on it. From there it is up to you. I would get guitar hero as well. Good luck!

1. a Wii on a HDTV without HD cables looks horrible. I had ours that way for a month or so. Get HD cables if you have a HDTV

2. As long as you have HD inputs on your tv that work you'll be fine (doesn't matter if your cable/dish isn't get hd right now)

3. It should come with Wii Sports. On that one cd comes bowling, tennis, baseball, boxing, and golf.


The Wii was fun for a month, then only got used whenever the family was around. I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to let me sell ours. Ain't happening.
 
the wii is awesome and mario kart is the sh!t. very fun boozing game. plus you can play old school games on it for very cheap.
 
I kinda agree with David that the Wii wears off but then again I have a 360 and PS3 too so the Wii just doesnt pack the same punch. But on the flip side Wii is much friendlier and easy to play then the 360 and PS3 making it very popular with non gamers. My sister would only allow the Wii for her house. The Wii is good in the sense that a lot the games make you move. It better then sitting on a couch playing a game. I know my nephews still love it almost a year later. Also yeah get the HD cable it makes a big difference.

Options I would get a second set controller and nunchuck. Also depending on the games you want to play a game pad too. Maybe the rechargeable battery pack but I will admit the regular batteries work pretty good.

PS Wii while having a party and drunk is the best.
 
If I need to exercise and can't get out for a quick ride, then the boxing game in Wii Sports gives me plenty of workout. It may not have the best graphics, but once you get immersed in the game, it doesn't matter. The kids like it alot too, even though the wife bought it for me.

It looks like the Wii Fit is going to be this year's hot item for the holidays.
 
I would imagine she want the Wii for the workout "games"which pretty much cancels out Xbox or Playstation...

I was going to say look into the PS3. It is also a kick azz Blue Ray player.

THE WII is amazing...I'm guessing she's not a gamer and not looking to sit in front of an xbox 360 or ps3 for hours on end...so I highly recommend nintendo Wii. It's pretty addicting.

If you buy it new it comes with one nunchuk, one wireless controller, and the wii sports game. btw...I'm selling my Wii (gotta pay for next semesters tuition #-o). Sheck it out. It comes with some great games and extra controllers.

btw - Santa just picked up wii consule and fit for mrs claus (or is that claws) after work yesterday.

out the door in less than 5min and $250+ $80.

way cheaper than was i was seeing on line (eg
amazon, etc).

have friends back east that said stores are all sold out there.

if anyone interested target in marketplace has cartons of them (and was not selling of back of truck;)).

We just bought the Wii for $250 at Bestbuy. It came with Sport and is an ok game. The g/f likes it! Man do our arms hurt afterwards! The Fit looks like fun.

I have 007 and whilst its good its not as good as Golden Eye.
 
under the tree yesterday and hooked it up for the mrs tonight and she totally dug it. spent majority of the time setting up her Mii. Gotta get the hair right ;)

Congrats ont he wii. If you like racing, Mario kart is fun. I got it and me and the wife have a blast running into each other and Mario and Sonic go to the Olympics is really fun. and how everybody is saying beer+friends+Wii=OUT-RAGE-OUS FUN!!!!! To much jack...and i have the same TV get the HD cables. It is worth every penny.
