I did it!! Difficulty mounting a tire...

I've been trying for days to install a WTB Velociraptor tire without a tube on a Mavic UST rim. I tried every trick in the book to get the tire to inflate and seat on the rim ( like wrapping a strap around the tire).

I even tried putting a tube in, inflating the heck out of it, and heating the tire with a hair dryer to re-shape it to fit the rim......I ended up blowing out the tube in my living room.....my wife came running in to find out where the gunshot came from :lol: (I have a 100 psi compressor, and I blew up the tire/tube to around 75 psi....not good)


Finally, I came up with this idea, I put a new tube in the tire, only blew it up to around 55 psi but I made sure the bead had seated on the rim on both sides. Since its nice and warm out today in Riverside, I put the wheel on top of my roof. After an hour, my tire was nice and hot, I removed the tube, poured in Stans, and blew it up with the compressor.....would you know it sealed right up!!!!!:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Now you just need to pray that you never have a flat on an epic ride when you are in the middle of no where.
Oh, and take it from someone who has several years experiece running a UST setup, carry 2 spare CO2 carts and 2oz. of Stan's with you at all times.

If you blew the bead off the rim when you over-inflated it, it's likely you'll now have burping problems with that tire since the bead has been stretched too far.

To the op, fixing a flat with Stans is no different than with a tube. Just pour out the excess fluid, remove the stem and put a tube in.

I did notice the bead had a small v-shaped fold where the tube blew out.......I'll try to keep the psi at around 35 or 40 hopefully it won't burp.

I guess with some tires its recommended that you blow it up with a tube for a few days so that the tire "takes shape" but I tried that and it didn't work......it wasn't until I got it hot (on the roof) that the rubber finally became soft enough that it "took shape"
