Ride Report Hurkey Creek - Idyllwild

Had a great time out there meeting new people and saying hi to old friends. Did not get my camera out even once so no pictures from me expect my awesome new avatar.

Jeff

Despite your new avatar it was really cool to meet you ;) Fun times.

A little past halfway up Ernie Maxwell we saw the A group coming down, I missed the first few (Sanjay, Maxwell, etc) but was able to snap a few of whoever was left from that group....

then i'm not sure what trails we came down next, but they were a blast and worth the killer hike. OMR making it look hard...

and so ended my ride.

I wish I ran into Craig and Gene as I had infractions, time-outs and suspensions signed, sealed and ready to be delivered to them. ;)

grasshopper....

... on the return down Ernie Maxwell I did a OTB into the rocks but was fortunate and landed between the boulders. I'm not really sure OMR didn't push me out of his way but I can't prove it yet so I won't say anything .

Hey, that's what friends are for, Mikey....

Nancy, i'll ride with you.. and don't forget May 16th... Did y'all know there is an awesome single track trail behind that big log pile? fun DH.

Nancy, i'll ride with you.. and don't forget May 16th... Did y'all know there is an awesome single track trail behind that big log pile? fun DH. Too bad we missed you all. we rode early in the AM on Saturday. only 20 miles but tough climbing! Ugh! Happy Trails

Thanks for a great time everyone, I had a blast even though I was in a little over my head with the A group and cause you guys to wait for me. I still had a great time despite a few falls and cramps settling in towards the last big climb. All the downhill trails were a super sweet and a blast. Martin and Andy and all those SS, you guys rock and I still don't comprehend how you can climb without gears...got to go practice some more climbing before the next big ride!

Nice Dance

Mtnbike4fun sat at the fire with sunglasses on, very stone faced while I gyrated and danced for him and crossed my eyes at him and did many other strange things and he never acknowledged so he was either asleep or totally bonked and drunk or I’m not nearly as hot when I gyrate as I thought. And by the way, your new user name is Mr. Socks!!!

I was mesmerized by your dancing therefore motionless and speechless ;)

Why white socks you ask?
I answer with another question.."Why be ordinary?"8)

To the great STR group. Hello to all the people I met and don't remember their names. I had an excellent time with a great group of people. Looking forward to next time at Hurkey and of course Downieville later on this year.

Tim - The root roller was a breeze, I'm glad you man'd up and did it. You are welcome for the burger on Sat night. Thanks for the Trade Winds. hmm good.

John224 aka Barbie - Next time bring more to eat. No more moochie my stuff. Glad you made it out and we were able to destroy you. Are you ever going to go riding with me again?

Maverick was a little beat up after doing the 20+ miles we did on Saturday. He slept most of the day on Sunday and now ready to go do another ride. He is a stud!

Liz - "This is THE ONE!" I am not sure who's going to believe you on the next ride. I didn't say a word until we got on top of that climb. Doing a little extra credit could not have been easier, especially since we all knew who we were going to point the finger at. :)

I drove...I ate...I froze around a campfire...I slept (somewhat)......I rode & rode and rode... I smiled a lot .... I laughed a lot... I listened to grown men moan... I listened to howls of joy... I saw beautiful landscapes and trails that seemed to go forever either up or down... I saw "this is THE trail"...I sat around the campfire and listened to a lot of signature material... I got up the next day and did it all over again ... then I left... with a lot of memories that makes hanging out and riding with these people a special part of my life.

Thanks guys & girls, it was a total blast.

Huge +1

Great,Great, time. We had a blast, Hurkey Creek is too much fun.

Thanks for all the memories & photos everyone as the 3rd Annual was off the hook.

I can't wait for next year, first weekend of April for the 4th Annual, I'm going to book my spot now.lol:bang:

Sorry it took me so long to post about the camp out. Kind of busy lately.

My plan was to leave early and get there so i can do a lap, but I didn't get off work til about 10am. I didn't arrive till about 5pm and there were plenty of STR already there. After setting up camp, we huddled by the fire as it was freezing cold and a bit windy.

Once we reached the Keen Camp Summit, we re-grouped a bit. There were so many of us, we counted about 45 riders and not all have arrived yet.

On Sunday, as the other went to ride Ramona trail. Gregg, Art, Tim and I went on the 24 hr course but mixed in some extra credit

Here's Art finding some fun stuff to roll
IMG_3411.jpg

This trail was a lot of fun, but it seems it would be better that other direction, but you would have to climb the fire rd a bit to get there.

IMG_3413.jpg
IMG_3414.jpg

After we got back, everyone was long gone. After earting something and having a cold beer with Tim, I went out on another lap. I decided to stay another night and ride Monday so I was in no hurry. Later, I settled in and enjoyed the rest of the night. I'll do a seperate RR for that as I explored a bit more. Can't wait til next year!
