I just realized that the DS classes aren't broken into age groups. I misread it thinking that there were 40 and over classes (the 40 is the entry fee).

Do they use a BMX style of starting gate, or do they use that swinging gate thing (never actually have seen one)?

The last few races they used a single gate for each side which is magnetic and is dropped forward. there is a recording that says riders ready, blah, blah, blah. They made us balance on the side rail and we could not lean our tires on the actual gate for the last race.

I do have an email in to Mike to find out if they are using the same gate (I thought it belonged to Team Big Bear).

    Dual Slalom Update (no gate)

Here is the response I got back from Mike regarding the DS Gate:

    Nancy,

There is no gate. It will be an honor system, foot down start.

    This will be the format:

Every racer will have one run on the right side of the course to establish start order. Then the 2 up rider heats will be the best of three runs per heat with the winner of 2 of the three runs moving on to the next round. This will be a quick, timmingless, hassle free way of doing it .... I hope.

    Mike

I think that caused even more confusion for me!

    1) If each rider does one run on the right side to determine starting order, how will they determine starting order if they're are trying to do it without timing???

    2) I don't know how these things work, so excuse what may seem to be an obvious question. So they run everyone down the right side of the course (we'll assume they must do some form of timing), how is the order determined - do the faster pair of riders go last? So they combine those with like speeds? If so, it would seem that slower riders could advance if they are paired up against riders of similar speed.

    3) "Then the 2 up rider heats will be the best of three runs per heat with the winner of 2 of the three runs moving on to the next round." Sorry, I know this may be the way DS normally runs, but I have no idea what this means! I'm using up too many brain cells on this. I think I should just stick to DH where you simply pay $40 and do your 3-minute run.#-o

Normally in DS eliminaion rounds, the fastest person races the slowest person, etc. So it pays to qualify in the middle. If you are the slowest person, you usually get eliminated first (which sucks).

That makes a little more sense.

It looks like the top two people will get a lot of runs down the course!

Wow they are taking you up 154 all the way? Wouldn't it be much faster on 101 to the other end of 154?

Thats what I was thinking as the off ramp from the 101 is 0.10mi from Zaca Station Road. Just a rough estimate shows going all the way around the 101 would add about 15 or so miles and since I have not been on the 154 I have no idea how fast the traffic would flow or how fast the road would be safe at as it looks to be a two lane road for a good distance where I know I can maintain 75 to 80 on the 101.

    Anyone tried both routes?
